No period after coming of the pill

Hello,

I came of the pill (femodene) on the 13th of November (38 days ago), had a usual withdrawal bleed on the 15th for about 5 days but nothing since!

Been on the pill for about 10 years. Not TTC just yet but want to soon and have always felt uncomfortable about what the pill is actually doing.

On the NHS website it says you should get a period within 2-4 weeks so i'm starting to stress out now. I can't help thinking about it every day / checking everytime I go to the loo.

About a week ago I also had really sensitive boobs for a few days. I have also felt like I had cramps but this might be in my head!

Anyone else go through something similar?

I am going through something similar right now!
Came off it on 8th November, had a withdrawal bleed for 4 days then nothing since.
Sorry I can’t give you any advice but I’m in the same boat as you. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon.

I’ve stopped the pill several times over the years and never had this. I’ve just turned 39 and am hoping it’s not the menopause.

Ladyratterley · 21/12/2019 13:46

My pill was Gederel. And I’ve done a pregnancy test and it was negative.

Loveluella · 21/12/2019 14:00

The same happened to me, took a while for my first period and then they were irregular for a year (well until I fell pregnant!)
I did a few tests as I had pregnancy symptoms but assume it must just be the hormones settling down.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/12/2019 14:11

This happened to me OP and I was told by my GP, and then subsequently the gynae consultant that it is completely normal and can take up to 6-9 months for periods to become regular.

It was also pointed out to me by the above that you have to bear in mind that if you've been on the pill 10 years your period will be different to how it was when you started regardless and that is normal. My natural period 20 years on from when I started them is much lighter and shorter than it was when I was on my teens. The body has aged, hormones health and ageing change things etc.

See your GP of you see concerned but I imagine (as I found) that they will want you to at least wait a few months before they begin investigations (unless you are exhibiting any other concerning symptoms or havent had an up to date smear etc)

I came off the pill in the summer, maybe July, after 10+ years. Didn't get a period until November. Obviously I've only had two so far but they've been fine. Nothing like the nightmare they were before the pill.

SnowyUnicorns · 21/12/2019 15:17

After 10 years of being on the pill you will have quite a build up of hormones in your system. It can take quite a few months to get back to a normal cycle because your hormones will be adjusting to the change and your ovaries will need to get back into a regular cycle having effectively been dormant for so long. Don't panic, it is early days.

Caramel78 · 21/12/2019 15:20

This happened to me when I came off the pill. Had a withdrawal bleed within the first week and then didn’t get a normal period again for about 45 days. It was lighter than normal and I was getting some spotting too. Took about 3 months until my periods were completely normal again

Thanks everyone for the advice. It’s so hard not to stress over it but I also know stressing could make it worse!

I've still had nothing either Sbar
Hopefully you'll be a bit distracted over the Christmas period and it'll help with the stress.

Sbar · 24/12/2019 13:04

@Ladyratterley yes hopefully you too! It’s so bad that they don’t make these things clear to you before you take the pill. I used to ask my doctor regularly if there was anything wrong about being on it for such a long time and she always said no.

When I came off the pill after 8 years it took me 14 months to get a period. The dr did blood tests after a few months and said I just had to wait. Very frustrating as we wanted to start ttc. If I had known it could be a problem I would never had gone on the pill for so long, but at 17 when I started taking it I didn't think about that!

yellowsun · 26/12/2019 10:41

It took 51 day for mine to return after over 12 years on the pill.

Ladyratterley · 31/12/2019 13:26

@sbar mine has arrived today! 46 days after my initial breakthrough bleed ended. I hope your hormones start to stabilise themselves soon too.
I’m not sure whether to be happy it’s arrived or concerned it took so long.

Sbar · 31/12/2019 15:25

@Ladyratterley me too! It took 43 days I think! So relieved. Although it’s not like periods I’ve had before, much lighter and lots of brown... I’ve seen other women say there cycles started shortening after the first one and eventually go back into a pattern so hopefully will be the same for us!

Fingers crossed! I’ve had breaks from the pill before and never had this happen.
Anyway, Happy new year to us! Grin

Hey,

Glad I found this post as was going to start a similar thread!

I came off pill last Feb. I had 2 lots of blood test and an external scan all which came back normal. I've not had anything until this week had some brownish red discharge for a day, then nothing 😥

I was sure I was ovulating last week so tried one of the tests from boots and got 2 lines, but they weren't as strong as each other meaning no ovulation.

Got another doc app next week as starting to get really worried now!

Sbar · 13/01/2020 11:20

Hi @Edonohoe22, it must be very stressful for you,

From looking at loads of these forums I have seen a lot of women took ages to get there periods back to regular (some over a year) the fact that your tests have come back okay and that you had some kind of bleeding is a good sign!!

Maybe see another doctor for another opinion, but I’m sure it will all turn out okay! I feel like stressing makes these things worse but it’s so hard not too!

I came off in September and have had one since (December). I'm missing/late again this month (not pregnant) :-(

Edonohoe22 · 15/01/2020 11:17

Hey @Sbar thank you ❤ I cant help but feel a bit worried, but fingers crossed I'm going to start to get back to normal now!

I think I'm going to try traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture too maybe. Hopefully doctor can help more with my app on Monday morning!
