short hair, ponytail, what to do with the back of the head hairline bits

So, someone with short ish hair, and when you put it into a ponytail the 1-2" at the back of the hairline, on the neck, is too short to reach the pony tail band. What do you do - it can be pinned, but how to make it stay tidy - hairspray, gel, or some other magic trick?

I've tried a few you tube videos but the definition of 'short' is different from mine - looks pretty shoulder length to me, which is longer than I'm talking about!
(I know one answer may well be - in that case don't have a pony tail - but for various reasons, in this case a tidy ponytail is a must.)

Could you do 2 bunches so the hair doesn't have so far to reach?

Other than that you could use gel and put the hair up when wet so it's "used" to being in ponytail shape as it dries?

One of those zigzaggy stretchy hair band things, it sort of combs the hair up and grips it I don't know what they're called!

I think they're called flexi comb headband!

Thanks both - sadly no bunches, ponytail is the rule. The drying into a ponytail is a great idea. As for gel, is there any particular type of gel that would work well? I'll have a look for the zigzaggy thing as well, that does sound a bit like magic!

Oversized hairclips do it for me. I have shoulder-length hair I put in a chignon and I am lazy. Hairclips like those in the picture are all over the shops at the moment. I got plain black from H&M.

Another brilliant idea! I'm thinking do the ponytail, then damp down the back of neck hair and pin it up with those?

Oops I meant the clips were a brilliant idea Sabor. Ok so there is hope, although the hair may look a bit 'clip heavy'!
