Are waxed coats dead now?

Have seen one I like, ridiculously cheap sale price. In terms of function it would be perfect - but will people point and laugh?

(Will be spending Christmas in wellies in a place where all the well-dressed dog walking retirees wear puffer coats. I have no dog, am not retired and hate anything puffy or quilted.)

poncing along like a tit in a teddy coat and kitten heels ...

Xmas BlushXmas Grin Now that was my first visiting-the-parents date some centuries ago. Plus fishnet stockings. Stupid boy didn’t warn me about the three quarters of a mile of tractor-destroyed cobbles and tarmac we had to clamber over to get to his house ...

I followed your link expecting to laugh and mock but I love it. Am now wondering if I could squeeze into a small, yet I live the most urban life imaginable. Dam you!

This is probably too late but 21 yo DD is coveting the fat face Sussex wax jacket - lives in London atm. Several acquaintances have it or similar. Likes it as lasts for years and good pockets.
I had been looking to get it for her as Xmas extra if reduced but it wasn't

Astillbe · 21/12/2019 23:21

@abitoflight

The Fatface jacket Sussex jacket is half price now.

@SurpriseSparDay I think wax jackets are fine to wear, I've got a Barbour Beadnell that I've had for about 10 years (I'm 40). I mostly wear it when I'm walking the dog, I don't really care if it's "in" or "out" of fashion. It's practical, and I love the smell.

If anyone else is interested the American Amazon website has more pictures of country attire fireman jacket. It might help you make your mind up...I am still dithering...

Ladybirdbookworm · 21/12/2019 23:30

I've just bought my Dd a waxed parka from Whistles today ...reduced to £89
It's made me want a waxed jacket too. It's gorgeous and the hood is removable.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/12/2019 23:34

That’s not at all Joules-esque. If it were Joules it would be liberally bespattered in large cabbage roses or feature perky pink stripes somewhere.

Yoollyball · 21/12/2019 23:43

I have a tweed own brand country attire long line coat. It is beautifully made with lovely lining and I get lots of compliments. Not as beautiful as a Walker Slater tweed coat but half the price. Don't be put off that they sell Joules they are more leaning in the ££ market.

JaniceBattersby · 21/12/2019 23:48

I have the Fat Face Sussex. It’s bloody brilliant. It’s really warm and has millions of pockets. I absolutely love it.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 22/12/2019 00:16

I’ve got a Fat Face wax jacket very similar to that Sussex except it’s got chest pockets to match the lower ones. I bought it earlier this year for half price. Don’t be fooled by the pretend wax, I got utterly fucking drenched when I got caught in the rain in it.

The long wax Joules coat that I bought the year before though does actually keep me dry. And not a cabbage rose or perky pink stripe in sight.

abitoflight · 22/12/2019 07:33

@Astillbe
Is that in store? Still showing full price online
If it is half price in store, then that's my morning sorted!
Thank you 😄

lovelilies · 22/12/2019 07:46

Fucks sake. 11 and a half hours into a 12 hour night shift and I've bought that jacket 🙄

SurpriseSparDay · 22/12/2019 08:21

Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

I rule!

When it arrives, lovelilies, I shall expect a one thousand word dissertation on all its formidable qualities ...

(My other problem was that I spent too long comparing it to swankier things, so fell out of love with its rustic charms.)
