help me with Xmas office party dress

dh has an office party tomorrow. I have never met his team. He is in a fairly senior role.

Not sure what to wear. I am 40. 159 cms tall and size 8 but my tummy and arms are a bit fat.
I have a very nice backless black dress with sequence on straps. I was hoping to wear it, I tried this evening and I am too fat to eat get into. Another brand new party dress bought last year doesn't fit me Xmas Blush.

Please tell me if I can wear any of these 2 dresses. Strangely I look slim in this black dress. I think they are a bit casual. Other option to buy something tomorrow morning. I work from home, can on only take out 1 hour.
thank you :)

Any of those would be nice. If you're worried it's too casual, just add some BIG earrings and put on more makeup than usual...some glam shoes. A little black dress is the go-to for a reason...you can dress them up or down.

The blue dress in your last picture is really nice and very flattering. You look lovely.

Miseryisabutterfly · 13/12/2019 08:27

You are slim! That’ll be why you look slim in it 😉 I agree with @BillHadersNewWife suggestions

thefootofourstairs · 13/12/2019 10:02

The first dress looks good to me , minimal and chic , what’s wrong with that ?

Annasgirl · 13/12/2019 10:17

Wear the black dress with a huge statement necklace - but a short statement necklace not one that hangs down the middle.

Then very high heels and you will look great.

I've been out twice this Christmas and the first time I was overdressed, the second time I wore a dressy version of usual clothes (wide trousers, silky top and statement necklace) and I looked the same as everyone else - no one was out in sequins or standout dresses.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/12/2019 11:56

The black dress will be lovely, but don't wear a necklace with it as it will clash with the beading on the neckline. I'd go for big earrings, fancy shoes and good hair/makeup. Have a great time!

Annasgirl · 13/12/2019 15:12

oops - didn't see the beading - I thought it was another dress!!! Yes big earrings and perhaps a big bracelet or a few.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/12/2019 15:45

Or a big statement necklace that sits over the beading!

If you've worn it before and you feel slim in it then definitely wear it and enjoy the night Xmas Smile

They are both low key and more day dresses. You would have to glam them up majorly. You really need a party dress.

You can book a free personal shopper appointment online with either Debenhams or John Lewis, for tomorrow morning and they will find you a great dress!

dontgobaconmyheart · 13/12/2019 17:28

They aren't screaming xmas party but really it depends where the party is OP? Local restaurant for a meal or the pub, it's fine and can be dressed up. Far more sustainable to just wear what you have too, when there is nothing wrong with it. Second that you look slime because you are OP, you look fab!

dontgobaconmyheart · 13/12/2019 17:33

Oh dear lord. You look SLIM, OP, not Slime Blush

nicedress · 16/12/2019 23:07

Thanks everyone for your lovely replies. Sorry I was away this weekend, so couldn't reply.

I wore the black dress with big earring and bracelet. I didn't have time to go shopping. Also, a big thank you for uplifting my confidence by saying I look slim [slim]
