If you’re going out, do you wear your hair straight or wavy?

I am going out Friday night (rare) and don’t know how to wear my shoulder length hair - straight or curled/wavy. I think it suits me better straight but wavy seems to be more on trend?

I am a wash and go person day to day so want to make a bit of an effort.

How do you wear your hair when you style it?

Forget fashion do what suits you.
I never style my hair. I have very wavy hair and one thing I have learned in 57 years is not to fight nature. Good hair cut and it's wash and wear.

EpcotForever · 11/12/2019 20:30

I tend to straighten most days so for going out I'd go curly/wavy.

Straightened hair is very out of fashion now. I know this because I work wit young trendy people Smile no one straightens their hair any more.

afterme · 11/12/2019 20:31

Glad I asked. Wavy it is!

I have long hair down to my bra. I always wear it up. Every day. Then night before I want to look glam I wash and dry it, put it in sock rollers or a big donut bun, sleep on it and the next day when I take them out, I have long curls. Works a treat and everyone's always really surprised!

Well I'm young ishGrin 28 and I always straighten my hair when going out

YouWereRight · 11/12/2019 20:50

Plenty of young ish people are straightening their hair again Grin

I like either, though tend to straighten if it's going to be damp.

ParkheadParadise · 11/12/2019 20:53

I always straighten my hair when I'm going out. During the day it's always up in a messy bun.

dudsville · 11/12/2019 21:03

Puppymouse, what are sock rollers? I'm just experimenting with not using heat (bow dry and tongs). My hair head a natural loose wave, but washing it turns my hair bushy and the bow dry and tongs tame it and leave me looking natural but not bushy. Would love to hear of any new ideas!

halloumi2019 · 11/12/2019 21:31

As a young person, people my age do both lol

My hair is fine so looks better wavy as it makes it look thicker and brings my highlights out more. However it has to be a very good wave, not a shit attempt, to look decent. So if you aren’t good at waving your hair, just leave it straight

Others look better with straight hair, in fact some people eg women with naturally curly hair might straighten it for special occasions. Straight hair is just a normal, everyday style.

halloumi2019 · 11/12/2019 21:31

Straight hair is definitely not out of fashion, what a ridiculous statement

Bananablueberry · 11/12/2019 21:33

I would do whatever suits you/whatever you prefer! I have very straight hair naturally so never straighten it and curling it takes forever because I need to do really tight curls or it just goes straight. Everyday I just leave it natural but when I go out I love making the effort and curling it, wish it was curly all the time!

halloumi2019 · 11/12/2019 21:33

I have just scrolled through my Instagram timeline and there’s more posters with straight hair than anything else, particularly “young and trendy” influencers.

ffswhatnext · 11/12/2019 21:40

Depends on my mood at the time. My hair is naturally wavy, and somedays I wash and go, straighten or tie it up. Also depends on if it needs a cut, then it always gets tied. I go with what suits me and my hair , I'm the one that has to do the whatever to it.

afterme · 11/12/2019 22:37

The only thing with wavy is that I find it can look messy especially when it drops a bit.

straight hair is coming back due to the 90s influence. However on most people I don't think dead straight is the most flattering.

duckyolucky · 11/12/2019 22:55

why don't you blow dry it & curl off the ends so it's smooth but not flat

Storm1966 · 12/12/2019 07:42

I always have my hair poker straight but I’m only out of the house twice a week so I wash it Sunday morning and straighten Sunday night. I have long hair past bra strap and I have tried 2 different pairs of big curling tongs to try and put big bouncy curls in the bottom but it won’t curl and have osteoarthritis and I can’t put curls in with My straighteners as my fingers won’t let me.

PhoneLock · 12/12/2019 12:55

I have naturally curly hair so my options are up or down.

I usually do up for formal and down for less formal.

astralweaks · 12/12/2019 13:02

Straightened hair - not the genuine thing - is dated.
