What to wear with a green velvet dress?

I'm wearing it to a Christmas party next week. It's lovely, but I've no idea what to wear it with. I don't usually wear heels, and usually wear opaque tights. It's been ages since I dressed up for anything and I'm totally out of the loop

I’d wear natural tights and black, navy or burgundy shoes or boots.

What length is it? Above the knee and I'd wear opaques with either black shoe boots or a block heel in a jewel colour or maybe leopard print. Mid length I'd wear nude tights and a block heel slingback.

I got it in the charity shop but it's originally M&S and the tags are still on it. It's three quarter length sleeves and about three inches above the knee on me. I bloody love it. I have a horrible figure (rectangular but with fun csection overhang) but it's so flattering on me.

Opaques would be fine then? Black shoe boots are exactly the thing, why didn't I think of that? Now could anyone recommend some?

I'm wearing this H&M one with 10 denier black tights and sparkly black shoes (and a sparkly black clutch) My 'do' is a fancy one, if it wasn't I'd go with slightly heavier tights and shoe boots.
