New Year Goals. Accountability Thread

Writersblock2 · 08/12/2019 21:03

While I’m loathe to call them New Year’s resolutions, I wanted to start a thread to hold myself accountable with some of the goals I want to work towards next year. Fee free to join in with your own.

So the first one for me is the biggest: diet and exercise. I’ve successfully done keto in the past but I had a crap time earlier in this year and came off and piles it back on. My plan is to get back on keto after Xmas and stay on. I also want to get back into the habit of exercising on a regular basis because I always feel better when I do.

The next is sleep. I’m a crap sleeper. I always think I need to stay up late to get things done and then suffer for it later. Doesn’t help I’m naturally a night owl. So I want to work on getting more (and better) sleep after Christmas.

Self-care is the last one, which links in with the others above. Taking time to look after myself on a regular basis to try and keep stress levels down. Making sure I take time to have a bath and not just showers all the time. Doing my nails. Face masks. Just little things that perk me up. More water!

What about you?

Okay, some goals.

I’m not drinking coffee, cola or booze for the remainder of the year except Christmas Day.

No tea after noon.

NYE will be sober so my new decade doesn’t begin with a hangover.

I’m not yet ready to fight the sugar.

mumdom · 21/12/2019 13:43

Checking in to say I haven’t touched coffee, cola or booze since my pledge above. Really needed a glass of wine last night after a horrible week, but resisted, and made do with a herbal tea!

I have also reduced my tea consumption, although broke my self-imposed noon boundary, as desperately need a cup around 4pm to get through the dark afternoons.

To lose 2 stone
Spend less on clothes
Stop buying jewellery

LilyJade · 21/12/2019 18:48

I have just started counting calories & going to the gym.

I can't actually zip up my coat comfortably!!

I'm 5'3.5" & 12st9lbs, feel so fat now & breathless on exertion.

I needed to start before Christmas because otherwise I'll be unable to wear any of my clothes at all by new year.
I'm going to allow myself 2 feast' days - Christmas Day & Boxing Day but that's it.

Wish me luck!!

My aim is to lose at least 2lb a week & eventually shift 2st10lbs.

timswifey · 23/12/2019 16:50

How's calorie counting going @LilyJade ?

This Christmas I'm staying with my in-laws. Goal is to allow myself a little bit of what I like, but not to over-indulge.

Only a couple of crackers and cheese rather than half a Camembert lol.

One glass of wine etc.

LilyJade · 23/12/2019 18:59

I've calorie counted since Saturday & been to the gym twice so my coat feels more comfortable now!

Writersblock2 · 24/12/2019 08:28

I’m impressed some of you are doing it before Xmas. That’s a washout for me. Enjoying Christmas and then hardcore keto from the new year. Need to find some serious motivation!

Love this thread.
My aim is to actually use my gym membership, rather than just watch the direct debit disappear out of my account each month.
My weight is fine. However I am so un-toned it is ridiculous. Would like to be stronger in body (& mind)
Will try & do something with my nails, anything is better than the nothing.
Going to have my very long hair chopped a few inches so it is manageable.
I always manage 2-3 days a week without alcohol. I am going to up that to 3-4 dry days a week. Not that I drink loads but I think it becomes habitual.
I will also aim to drink more water as it does make a difference to skin, eyes, hair etc.
Will check in regularly to see how everyone is doing

Weight loss .
I had emergency surgery in October so spent the last couple of months feeling ropey and having more hospital and Dr appointments than I could imagine .

So:
weight loss , it can be done . I don't drink anyway but after Christmas the sweets have to go , at least for a month, I can start with January .

Need my hair cut
Have a dental appointment booked
Start of No Spend again
Major cull of clothes and weed out anything unsuitable .
Keep on with the Beauty Hoarder to use up anything I have .

MamaFlintstone · 25/12/2019 20:45

I’m going to get up 5 minutes earlier each day and do my hair. I feel so much better about myself when my hair is half decent, but have got in the habit since pregnancy of just shoving it back in a ponytail. DC is 2 now and doesn’t pull it any more so there’s really no need.

mumdom · 27/12/2019 18:21

Happy Xmas all.

Checking in to boast I have been extremely abstemious. Fewer drinks than the fingers of one hand. However the boredom and best behaviour that Christmas in my family requires has had me constantly picking at leftovers and chocolate and I feel bloated and uncomfortable. Pants, jeans and bra all feel pinchy.

timswifey · 28/12/2019 11:42

Family party here today. My method is going to be to have a glass in my hand but drink verrrry slowly so it won't get topped up every 5 mins! I have found this to work for me in the past as it means I don't get questioned as to why I don't have a drink in my hands.

Also will try to mainly have the hot food on offer and only a few treats that are there.

Cambionome · 28/12/2019 12:32

Lose a stone.
Drink loads of water.
Wear sunscreen every day.
Do something about lines round lips.

Just writing this down in the hope that it will encourage me to stick to it!!

mumdom · 28/12/2019 13:30

That’s an excellent tip, @timswifey, I’ll be using that in future. My problem is that I’m just a much better person with a glass of fizz inside me. Smiley, confident, friendly and chatty, not shy and surly in the corner Confused. I very rarely drink alcohol to excess and it’s certainly never a crutch. OTOH sugar - chocolate, cake, biscuits - and caffeine need to be available on a drip for me.

LilyJade · 28/12/2019 14:35

I'm at my mums for lunch today then going out for dinner this evening.

So restarting the calorie counting & gym tomorrow!!

bootygirl · 28/12/2019 17:01

i m 46, 35lbs overweight and size 16. never been great at looking stylish. going to try the 2 day rule for exercise. i drink water when ar work but slip back when off work, so need to do this.
Starting dissertation part of my masters next week, have 20000 words by end of May 2020. Since I work full time have 2 teens and do volunteer work as well. My self care (appearance) exercise and diet go by way side...
So I am hoping to start small and work up. So doing my nails at home, cleanse and moisturise daily.... wear classic jewellery so I dont have to think! I wish I could look more put together for work?

MaryBoBary · 29/12/2019 18:03

Mine are to
Lose weight. I lost nearly 2 stone in the first half of this year and then put it all back on again.
Start running again - I finished couch to 5k and then just stopped so I'm going to redo that.
Be more assertive. I'm going to be 49 in March and have spent my whole life trying to keep everyone happy. I've now realised that is impossible and so I'm going to start putting me first, saying no to things I don't want to do and generally be more self confident.
