I'm short and fat. What will I wear with pleather leggings?

I am 5ft 2 and short waisted. Big boobs and a lot of belly - spare tire above and below a distinct belly button waist. I love the look of leather leggings but I've no idea what to wear with them. Anything short shows off too much of my belly and arse. Anything long hangs from my boobs like a tent. Half tuck looks like I just forgot to tuck. Tuck and floof out hangs off my boobs and belly. God, just spelling this out makes me realise I need to give up on this one, don't I?

Have you a feature of which you are really proud? Do you think it might be better to emphasise this rather than emphasise a weighty body and short legs? I think you may feel happier showing off your plus points.

I think you need to do what makes you feel comfy and happy. Having passed 40 I'm more for 'ME' now and less about fashion or what everyone else things of me - bubbles to 'em! I'm not the slimmest or the most attractive - but I'm more for me than about impressing anyone. Some days I'm more daring than others. I say wear what you feel comfortable in and what you dare. This said I always wear leggings with a longer top and find a v-neck is more flattering on the boobs! Also a small heal is more flattering than a flat shoe if your legs are bigger. (I'm an ex-dancer and mother of 3 - and have resigned myself to a future of 'cankles!')! On a positive note a friend introduced me to the Keto regime and it really works for me (if I can be bothered to stick with it). Might be worth a punt! Merry Christmas xx

Hope Fashion (woman who set up Per una is the designer) has some good tops you can see on models with tight trousers or leggings

I like the gold one a lot

Wear them!

I'm a 14-16, no spring chicken and I wear coated jeggings that look similar.

I wear them with a long hip length cami and a boyfriend jacket blazer (both black)

I also wear them with a long black tunic with a crossover front and a longline vest.

I also wear a long ivory silk shirt over them sometimes with a wider cropped COS jumper over the top.

Skinny legs need a longer hip length top IMO

I'd wear a long silky blouse/shirt, either unbuttoned so you get some neck and decolletage on show and break up the expanse of fabric - if you wear a camisole or vest underneath you can unbutton it further and increase the visual impression of length down your body.

I am a similar shape and know exactly where you're coming from! I have several tops bought years ago, which are sort of fitted with darts at the back and front so they follow your shape instead of falling like a sack. Anything like that would be fine, as long as it came to the tops of your legs. But I can't find anything like that in the shops these days - it's so frustrating!

If you could find something like that you'd be fine - as long as your legs are reasonably slim? (If you're like me, and all the weight is up top? But if you have thicker legs then maybe the trousers won't be ideal, given how difficult it is for us 5'2ers to find anything flattering........)

I feel your pain......Xmas Sad

IME there's only one solution. The only shape that works needs to be a v necked empire line top or tunic with an A line silhouette. The focal point becomes your slimmest part (ribcage under bust). The A line skims bumps and bulges. I find the best length is either hip skimming (cuts the bottom in half and hence slims it) or mid thigh, unless you are very pear shaped (in which case you need shape at the waist. Hope that helps.

Suggestion for another style shape which I find works with skinny jeans / jeggings is boat neck or v neck batwing top which ends with a rib at the top of your thighs so completely skimming over the problem area but showing your legs. I'm a size 14-16 5ft 2.

I also like the idea of the satin shirt suggested above.

Don’t be put off by how tight this top looks on the model.
I’m short and fat too and it is surprisingly flattering.

If you want to wear the pleather leggings DO IT. I hate to say it but if you’ve got a fat arse and chunky thighs nothings going to hide them, so you might as well rock them loud and proud, embrace the pleather legging... I would wear them with a classy fitted butt skimming shirt, unbuttoned just enough to show off sassy necklace and a pair of heeled high tops. Wear your hair up on top for a bit of extra height et voila...

kasmac · 23/12/2019 00:51

Do you have a Bravissimo/pepper berry near you? Available online too. Expensive but an absolute godsend for those of us that are big boobed - I am 5’3 - size 16 and a 34JJ bust, so regular shops I need to go up to an 18/20 in the top to accommodate my boobs and then they just hang from my boobs with that stuffed pillow look! literally anything I try on in in bravissimo fits well and flatters my shape. They do Standard 10 12 14 etc etc sizes but with the addition of curvy / super curvy / really super curvy etc fits. Folk always ask if I have lost weight when I wear their tops Smile. Anyway, you might get something there to go with the trousers x
