Alternatives to outfits that look great with white trainers or chunky DM footwear

What alternatives are there, or is this the only way to look "current"? I googled dresses with trainers and they are mostly white. I googled dresses with loafers and all the pics had white trainers. Similarly, do wise leg trousers have to have a chucky shoe to balance the leg width?

Wear the shoes you love and use your judgement as to whether or not it looks good. Admittedly, white trainers and DMs are current but I wear the shoes I feel good in.

Trust your own style.

I am not stylish and yes I own DMs and white trainers but that's because I like them not because they are fashionable
I have block heel ankle boots from the 1990s, I only started wearing them last year. Bought them in a sale years ago because they were too good to leave but that's a different story.

I stopped wearing brogues around the same time but mainly that was because my brogues were getting tatty.

I quite like shoes to be just slightly different, like colour trainers.

I love loafers. I really like the look of the white trainers and the chunky shoes, but I have nice shoes and don't really want to buy more shoes. However, I do enjoy, just recently, looking a little more current... I'm torn.

Shoes define the look, more than any other item (IMHO). I buy an Italian brand of shoes, very extreme mostly, two seasons old from Yoox. The quality and comfort is fabulous, but they tend to be Marmite flavour.

Just wear the ones you have. If you get DMs, they last for years and come back into fashion again and again, so you could treat yourself.
There are nice hiking style boots around too.
