Advice about bleaching dark hair and dyeing grey

Hi, I need some advice and was hoping you wise ones could help.

I have dark hair which I have previously coloured dark brown to hide my grey roots. I want to grow out my grey now and thought I would have to go cold turkey as I know to dye hair grey you have to bleach to white and that is very difficult to do with dark hair. However, my mum's hair is a lovely colour and she spoke to her hairdresser, who said it could be done and I went there. They bleached my hair twice, which faded my hair to a coppery colour and added grey toner., which she coated on very lightly. The toner didn't really take so they then slathered on another layer of toner, thickly this time, which took so well that my hair went back to very dark again. At this point the condition of my hair was great and they had used vitaplex.

They obviously weren't happy with the result so I went back a few days later, where they pulled lots of hair through the cap (I assume trying for a dramatic effect after the last time hadn't worked), and bleached it twice again. This time it went really light at the back, not quite so light on the top. But this time, presumably as a result of bleaching my hair four times in four days, my hair is now very dry and straw like.

Also I was initially using silver shampoo, which again worked well on the light parts but didn't do much for the thick coppery blonde on top. So I bought some grey conditioner from Bleach London and used that, which did dampen down the blonde.

I am due to go back next week and am not sure what to ask them to do. Should I bleach the top again? Or avoid all together due to my hair being now damaged? I will attach some pics.

Sorry for long post, I have never bleached my hair before so advice from anyone with experience much appreciated!

Directions Silver might give you the colour effect you want. It's blue when you put it on but you don't end up with a blue cast, it really does make a difference.

If you’ve bleached it they much in a short space of time for the love of god don’t bleach it again, it will snap vitaplex or not!

They can add toners as they see fit but please give it four weeks before you bleach it again and be very kind to it in the meantime

I've been slowly changing my hair colour from a strawberry blonde all-over tint to ash blonde (bleach required) and my colourist makes me wait at least 8 weeks each time! She warned me when I came in that it would take at least 2-3 sessions with a long wait in between. I think it can take a while to change everything, I certainly wouldn't do anything again for a few months and treat your hair gently in the meantime.

I've never used Vitaplex, but do your salon offer Olaplex? Mine does and it seems to be a real hair saviour where dramatic bleaching is involved, although I absolutely second the opinion of leaving the bleach alone for a good while now!

Ok thanks. It will be about 4 weeks in between appointments. I did and do appreciate going from so dark to so light takes patience, but I am still impatient Smile.

I am assuming Vitaplex and Opalex are the same type of thing, but I will check that.

So, toner and vitaplex only this time, leave at least another 4 weeks for bleach.

Thank you, I really appreciate the advice!
