Quick! Is a tucked in blouse acceptable?

I don't really do office wear but I'm attending an event tomorrow which requires a professional appearance, and I really want to look stylish.

I've got an excellent polyester blouse and good, flat fronted trousers. In a moment of madness tonight I tucked the blouse in, and thought I looked pretty cool.

But did I? I'm 48 and I've only ever worn things untucked (apart from in the 80s when everything including chunky jumpers went right in to your high waist jeans)

Aaaaargh! Advice please?

Adding to the chorus of tucked in. Untucked says 'I'm out of touch with fashion and embarassed aboutthe. size of my tummy'.

Tuck fully, I've yet to see anyone pull
off the half tuck without looking like they've done the hasty toilet dash thing.

I'm fully tucked and ready for action! I'll take a tuck poll of my fellow attendees :) Slightly scared but DP didn't even look up this morning so I guess I haven't breached the bounds of decency at least.

Do not take style guidance from Apprentice candidates.

ememem84 · 20/11/2019 10:04

@palavah 😂😂 some of their outfits are a bit questionable.

Wondering if they have a stylist....

I can’t imagine not tucked in?! I tuck everything in, otherwise it looks all slouchy? Defo tucked in.

mistermagpie · 20/11/2019 10:18

I can't imagine a blouse/shirt with trousers not being at least a bit tucked in. I'd wear a casual shirt not tucked in but not a work one, I'm imagining men not tucking their shirts into their suit trousers now - does it not look a bit of a mess?

championquartz · 20/11/2019 11:14

Tucked in here today. I feel better tucked-in. Tidier. I feel it means 'business' Grin. Yeah I've a big arse but i don't care much and I don't think anyone else does either. I've a decent waist, that'll do.

HavelockVetinari · 20/11/2019 11:18

Untucked would look dreadful, it's only suitable for very casual looks with jeans or a short skirt. Definitely tuck it in!

Volvemos · 20/11/2019 18:17

French tuck has been done to death.

dudsville · 20/11/2019 19:26

Op, I'm in your age group. I agree, we think we're aren't supposed to tuck. Too fancy, too showy, but it looks so much better!!! I grit my teeth as I'm still not used to it but it really polishes a look.

MorrisZapp · 20/11/2019 23:12

Well I tucked and survived! Really glad I did, I felt much more polished and trendy. Looking around, my 'tribe' were all tucked in too.

No going back.

Thanks so much, genuinely, for the advice. Wouldn't have had the confidence without it!

In other news, I bought a Mint Velvet top from ebay with a built in French tuck! The outer is stitched to the lining at the front but hangs loose at the back.

Hard to describe but I love it! Christmas drinks outfit with jeans, total banker.
