Wedding guest outfit for a fattie

Ariela · 18/11/2019 09:43

I'm a size 16/18 and a bit more tubby than most of my wardrobe can be worn comfortably, so I need to find something to wear for a wedding in a month's time.
I have a decent pair of slim looking black trousers for starters, and a variety of jackets / coats that fit in assorted colours....
So need either a smart top with loose fitting arms to go with the trousers OR some sort of dress, perhaps a wrap dress?

Really don't think I can shed a stone in a month to fit my usual outfits, and seen nothing in the local charity shops.

Your help would be much appreciated!

Phase Eight would be a good place to start, for tops and dresses. They've almost always got a sale on too.

Follow fullerfigurefullerbust on Instagram. She's a size 20 and shares great outfits on her Instagram stories and outfit of the day highlights, including accessories etc.

Also check out styled by susie on Instagram. If you have they money, you could buy a personal shopping experience.

John Lewis also do free personal shop services but I think they can be hit or miss from reviews on here

How old are you, and do you know your body shape? Hourglass, apple, pear, etc?

NancyEspana · 18/11/2019 10:09

Hello!

I am a similar size. What shape and height are you please? And what is your style? Are you quite trendy or classic, boho, edgy or whatever?

Winter wedding outfits can be tricky. I think dress or trousers are fine, but I tend to suit dresses better, so I tend to go with that. The last winter weddings I was at I wore midi length pencil dresses with sleeves and court shoes.

I'm 5ft 6 and jeans and a baggy top my usual attire , just need to look smart for this. I was hourglass but this is now rolls of fat, but my boobs are bigger than the rolls!

Have just followed fullerfigurefullerbust on Instagram thank you @OlderThenYoungerNow
Will pop into Phase 8 when in town and have a look

Have a look at phase 8 on ebay, their dresses are very forgiving.

What is your budget?

HighNetGirth · 18/11/2019 17:02

I would start with a body-it need not be constricting shapewear, just something stretchy and smoothing. This will give you a smoother, neater look whatever you wear (and often makes things moer comfortable).

As for the outfit, what about a long tunic or velvet jacket to go with the black trousers you've already got? Monsoon has got some very nice tops and velvet jackets.

Ariela · 18/11/2019 23:30

Thanks, have ordered a couple of bits online to go with the trousers, hope they fit

Bravissimo have nice evening wear in from time to time. They do curvy and super curvy versions of different outfits. I was very surprised. I bought a lovely jumpsuit from them which is quite dressy.

Have you thought of an Indian tunic and trousers (Salwar Kameez)? You can get tight or baggy leggings. If you felt you couldn't carry off the whole look (dupatta - long scarf) I'm sure you could find a lovely, colourful embellished tunic to wear over your black trousers.
