So am I destined to never have another nice pair or 'going out' trousers ever again?

I want a pair of black 'going out' trousers. I've a pair of coated jeans that I like and wear a lot but want something a bit more 'sophisticated' I suppose. Only this is, I don't like:

Three quarter length
Cullotes
Ankle length
Flares (too small)
Jogger style

I'm never going to find a pair am I? 😡

I have so many tops and am
Always on the lookout for a pair of trousers. I can never find any nice ones. I have the same few pairs I rotate for work but going out is always the same pair jeans.

Don’t buy black trousers. They are the single most boring item of clothing ever (after skinny jeans). If they’re smart you look like one of the waiting staff (only fine if you are working as a waitress), if scruffy, they give the impression of having been grabbed from your bedroom floor ...

I was at a conference last week where every single member of the panel was dressed in some version of black trousers. Halloween Shock

I agree that black trousers can be more tricky they seem, to avoid the office worker/waiter look.

I think they key is in the fabric. Look for a crepe or something with a satin sheen, or a tuxedo trouser with a side stripe in a lux fabric. Wide legs are also around a lot this year.

See links below, all White Company, but am pretty sure HM and Zara would do similar, or Me and Em if you have a bigger budget.

Satin or silk, style wise, all within brief and a more sophisticated look than the ubiquitous coated jean so dated anyway. Sorry about the long links.

Do you live anywhere near London there are some fabulous sample sales on over the next week or two? I got some gorgeous evening trousers from a Peter Pilotto sample sale last week. Metallic striped, wide leg and VERY long (I'm 5'9 and I still need them taking up by quite a few inches). Retail at almost £600 but I got them for £93.

No, thanks. I want some black trousers.

Coated jeans are still everywhere @chasingseagulls so although I agree they seem to be the ubiquitous more casual 'going out' you can't get away from the bloody things when you're shopping. 😂

I'm seeing a lot of velvet too though I'm not sure if I like that or not yet, it's so 'heavy'.

I have a pair of tux like cigarette trousers with a black satin stripe down the leg which I like. Mine were from Autograph a few years ago but if you google women’s tux trousers there are loads from topshop to reiss and jaeger so all budgets.
