Apart from a bon and fringe 15 years ago that inregretted the moment I had it I have had pretty much the same hair style all my life.
I am now late 30s and have put on loads of weight due to mental health issues. I want to feel confident in myself and my hair is one if the things getting me down.
I've dyed it since i was 15 because of grey hair. I have had highlights for the past two years but i dont know if they work. Basically I'm in a rut and would really appreciate any advice or ideas.
Thank you.

I'm no good at suggesting styles but your hair looks really a pretty colour and very shiny. Do you do much to style it? I've been trying updos from the small thing blog, and I also learnt how to use a curling tong watching the videos on there and my hair looks so much nicer day-to-day. What about trying curled and half up half down (not too much up)?

Oh I'll look at that blog thank you!

Personally I would go to a good hairdresser with a really good stylist. Ask them for their advice because they are always the best to know what cut will suit your face shape. You have lovely thick hair which gives you plenty of options. A new cut can transform you and take years off you.

I'd take a few inches off the bottom and put in some chunky layers, especially round the face, to give it some swish and movement. Maybe a few subtle highlights too to accentuate the layers. If you google mid length hair you'll get a of options to give you a starting point.

Long bob that still allows you to tie it up? Try some simple up styles to mix it up? Like this.

It looks really shiny but also looks fairly flat (like mine!) My hair is very fine, but there is also a lot of it so it drags itself down. I put a load of layers in mine recently - some of them only reach the nape of my neck but I can still put it in a ponytail - and it's given it a lot more life. I now also have a 'gringe?' I think they called it. I've attached a photo of what I asked for fringe wise. I don't know if that helps you but it's another idea at least x

Thanks everyone!
Had never heard of a gringe but I like the look of it. The one time I had a full fringe I looked just awful I really did.

I really don't suit a full fringe either, and this one can be swept to one side if you like, or pinned back etc. It's quite versatile. Excuse my terrible editing skills, but this is me after I had it done the first time, with the layers too. It's now quite a bit longer

Your hair is lovely! But like mine, it just kind of sits there if its all one length! I have quite fine hair, but I find some soft layers and a long side fringe really helps give it some movement. A good stylist will advise you what will work best with your hair type. Good luck!

KateFoster · 08/11/2019 21:59

I think a long bob would suit you!

delilabell · 08/11/2019 22:13

Oh thank you both!
Yes that's exactly it , it does just sit there.
Tempted by a lob and "gringe" .
