Is a parka a style classic or am I going to look like a dodgy member of All Saints circa 1998?

Just that, really.

I'm lusting after a nice cosy, faux-fur hooded khaki/olive parka.

Never had one before as I used to think that shade didn't suit me but I've LIVED in my khaki bomber-type jacket all spring/summer and been wearing an olive-green sweater every day since it's turned cold and I just love the shade.

However, I am 43, and old enough to remember various Appleton sisters falling out of nightclubs with various Gallagher brothers, all wearing the late 90s 'uniform' of a khaki parka with massive furry hood usually shouting at the paparazzi

Will I look ludicrous wearing one, or are they a Style Classic?

Haha - I know exactly what you mean! I'm turning 40 this year and I LOVE my parkas, but I wouldn't consider them a style classic - more a necessary evil for the weather where I live!

I bought one after years of Shall I / Shan't I .

Trouble is , trying to find one that matched my ideal.
Has to have a fishtail back
Not shiney or plasticy
Has to be dark olive ( there's no other colour )
Removable fur (I don't like fur)
Not too much lining , I don't need it .

I found one on eBay , M&S , BNWT and £40 (usually £90)

I am way too old for the Appletons

They've been around for years they are practical for winter some are nicer than others. Everyone seems to have one including my mum who is 72. I don't love mine but if the weather is cold enough I'll wear it.

Hmmm... still not sure! I haven’t actually found the ‘perfect’ one yet so I might postpone the decision until I actually do!!
