What would you do with £500ish if you felt like a fat frump?

I have £500 to spend on princessing myself. Would you...

A) Personal shopping. I have a really limited ward robe- think one pair of jeans, 3 skirts etc. I never can find stuff I like and I yo yo with my weight. I am slightly heavier now, hence nothing fits. I have such a limited range of accessories to help me have a “concept” wardrobe

B) Buy a piece of jewellery- a ring for my right hand or even reset my engagement ring that I have never been 100% happy with.

C) other?

Get a colour and shape analysis done by Styled By Susie. Then buy their online shop so they can choose items for you!

  • haircut
  • personal trainer sessions
  • nice underwear
  • spa day?
AskMeHow · 06/11/2019 20:54

I think personal shopping would be a great idea.

You wouldn't necessarily have to spend the whole £500 in one go.

I'd also be tempted by a new hairstyle and/or session at a beauty counter for a bit of a makeover.

floffel · 06/11/2019 20:55

Op - I’d use that money on a personal trainer - they’ll support you on nutrition as well. By Christmas, 6 weeks away at 2 sessions a week (approx £30 per session) you’ll still have £140 left to buy yourself something lovely.

CRbear · 06/11/2019 20:55

Clothes! Everyone feels better in clothes that suit them. Maybe a great haircut too!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/11/2019 20:56

Have you already got a good coat and boots? If not, I'd start with those.
I'd also buy a good pair of jeans and two plain jumpers, one neutral and one in a 'good' colour (so in my case, red or pink).

Ponks · 06/11/2019 20:57

First thing for me would be a haircut as that immediately makes me feel better and more confident. Then possibly a manicure so I was feeling groomed to start.
Personal shopper sounds a good idea if you have a good dept store near you.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 06/11/2019 20:58

Personal shopper. Get clothes that suit your shape, try colours you wouldn’t ordinarily pick.

NorthernGravy · 06/11/2019 21:00

Recently had a haircut, hair, nails and makeup are always done, so I suppose I am not that much of a lost cause.

Personal trainer is not an option at the moment- and I do go to the gym.

I’ve had my colours done, so was thinking of asking the House of Colour consultant to come with me and do the personal shopping.

Personal trainer and gym sessions. This will make you feel great about yourself all the time instead of hoping that clothes/styling will hide any perceived flaws. If you feel more confident, fitter, etc everything will look good on you too. Think of it as a long term investment in yourself instead of a quick fix.

NotMeNoNo · 06/11/2019 21:13

I’d do the HOC style day and shopping session. They will
get you so much more for your money. I follow a few consultants on Facebook and sometimes they post the outcomes of a 3 hours client shopping session, you can just see it’s an amazing co-ordinated capsule wardrobe.

I would do something to stop myself feeling like a fat trump then enjoy the £500. I lost several stone and treated myself to an all saints leather jacket and other clothes and felt amazing. I am glad I waited till I felt great to treat myself it felt so much more enjoyable. And it is doable! I did it on a few months.

A lovely handbag and pair of sunglasses. They're my favourite things to shop for because you can never get too fat for them!

Start running. Here:

Get some good supportive running tights. Get a fitness tracker which logs your activity and food. Aim for a deficit everyday between 500 and 1000 calories.

Get some nice clothes for now but be aware you will lose the extra weight if you do the above.
