Sorry to bring it back to Christmas but I do enjoy a good bauble and these just popped up in my inbox via Trouva (has sort of filled the TicTail void for me, primarily home stuff though) and they feel very thread appropriate.

Less thread appropriate but I'm very tempted to get my father the David Bowie one and Ruth Bader Ginsburg for me because she's brilliant, obvs.

😍😍

Redandblue11 · 05/11/2019 14:03

Didn’t mean to ignore recommendation re seeing gp for redness in neck bo, thank you I seemed to have missed that post and only read it now, after i used the calendula on affected area, at least it doesn’t seem to have made it worse .. even might look a bit better... not sure. So thank you it doesn’t seem to be rosacea so best to get it checked
(I only slightly despair as in the past gps didn’t seem to help with this sort of issue...)

quirkychick · 05/11/2019 14:10

I love those baubles, bo, I so don't need any more decorations, though.

botemp · 06/11/2019 07:43

And thus the sexy cardigan reaches peak Confused BlushConfused Props for the matching cashmere bralette though but beware the bra interventionists on here. Rather bizarre to read press coverage of this as a look to be admired and imitate to be as chic as Katie Holmes rather than a wardrobe slip up. I'm getting flashbacks to the wale tail thong/G-string sticking out of your jeans. Perhaps it is a purposeful look, much like that was, and I can officially declare myself a prudish old fuddy duddy.

On my way to Antwerp for the sample sales this morning. Hopefully some nice things there and in their consignment shops Smile

Red, yes, I get the general idea that GPs in the UK aren't all that informed on skin conditions and often dismissive. Not that I blame them as they can only specialise in so much and skin issues are generally not that life threatening, but I understand they're reluctant to refer to a derm as well. I'd say go seek them out if it doesn't improve after a week or so, keeping it moisturiser will help and at least you'll have demonstrated that it's persistent and not something random.

That Anna bauble! I need it in my life. Thanks for the crackers link, those are perfect, kids can decorate them too as a Christmas craft so that’s ideal.

Xing I kind of love the idea of buying the same item for everyone.

Moda Operandi and Brown have started their insider sales.

Bash also have up to 40% off – I can’t remember who asked about that before. You have to be signed in / signed up to access it though.

The Katie Holmes look is a little contrived, but overall she’s had something of a style overhaul and in general I like her looks. Maybe I just have a soft spot for her since she escaped the clutches of Scientology.

I’m looking forward to seeing the sample sale pictures.

Wearing the attached skirt today, but in black. I wish they’d had the brown version in the concession store that I was in. www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/womenswear/skirts/product.wool-mini-skirt-orange.0673397006.html

Don't expect too many pictures, communal fitting rooms and photography bans tend not to allow for much.

Just tried on some blazers at AF vandervorst but they came up a bit big unfortunately. Some lovely boots as well but the ones I liked tended to be OTK which just looked a bit odd. Now waiting in line at Haider Ackerman and Ann Demeulemeester and then I'll probably have to stand in line at Dries van Noten. Weather has scared off the usual crowd thankfully so won't be that long.

I've seen that skirt, it's lovely the colour pictured (if that's what you mean to be brown) is quite orange, a sort of dusty orange. The navy is actually really nice in RL.

I'm not seeing Browns sale or MO for that matter. I hate these region specific sales.

I am really looking forward to the Antwerp sales photos!!
I must make a trip there next time they have them, I remember asking last year about it.
I am also wearing a skirt today, a carven one I had not worn and got some time ago (year or two?) in a charity shop in Marylebone. Prince of Wales fabric slightly a line, knee length.
If I come across a decent mirror I will share.
Two years ago I did a Mary kondo of my wardrobe and I am kicking myself now as I gave away some great skirts.

quirkychick · 06/11/2019 09:42

www.charlottechesnais.fr/en/ These are £££ or €€€ but some lovely Parisian jewellery.

I'll try to catch up properly later. Grin at the Katie Holmes photo.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 06/11/2019 14:15

Has anyone ordered boots from Bobbies (www.bobbies.com/en/) I really like the look but haven’t had any “real life” experience of them. I am on my annual search for black knee high boots.

XingMing · 06/11/2019 15:42

No, but I may just have bought new ankle boots from Yoox clearance, to REPLACE the pair I got last year that have no tread left on the soles!

Redandblue11 · 07/11/2019 12:28

springtime bo I haven’t ordered, always liked the look of them tough.
I think Maxima ordered a pair of summer shoes or sandals from them before.

Redandblue11 · 07/11/2019 13:07

I am reading The Designer , a historical novel inspired by some of Dior and post war Paris. Just started but enjoying it . I am not sure how much research or true portrait of Dior‘a character is true.

Elle and Maxima have ordered from Bobbies directly a few times IIRC, and think one of them returned one or their orders without issue. I've recommended the brand since the start of these threads, and feedback on them has always been positive, I think. I've just never ordered them online. Just be aware they're French sizing.

I'll catch up later with Antwerp sample sales tales, and miniscule number of pics.

Ahem, I've returned the boots Shock I'd give myself the advice to return them on here and I realised had I seen them and tried them on in a shop I would have just moved on, shoved them to the back of my mind, and not be contaminated with all this angst. I'm still not over the Chloe boots though, still looking for a solution somewhere, think I'll pass by my cobbler to see if he has sensible advice. He's a bit of a dick (but a really good cobbler) so it may be a fruitless visit.

Thank you @botemp. The style I want are out of stock but if they are restocked I may give them a go. They have some fab gold boots but I cannot justify them at all 😆

ToEllewithIt · 07/11/2019 15:53

I have bought Bobbies and I was happy with the quality, I felt it was on a par with LK Bennett ( whose shoes I like).

ToEllewithIt · 07/11/2019 20:06

That sounds like a sensible way to think about the boots botemp

I wore my newish jacket out last night. It’s super cozy.

More jewellery, these are two photos from Pinterest of Charlotte Chesnais' jewellery. I've been into earrings a lot over the summer, but find with hats and scarves they get in the way or get pushed out, so I'm quite attracted to the ear climber trend, as a way to wear them without the whole entangled in a scarf or lost thing going on. I would have to find a more budget friendly version, though.

Lovely jacket, Elle, it looks very cosy. I have got out some more winter clothes as it's been much colder this week. A few more properly warm, wool jumpers and a Laura Ashley wool blanket skirt that I bought in a charity shop last year. I've been in my black, knee high boots in all the rain and cold too. I like them, but find knee highs never really come quite up to my knee as I'm tall.

Interesting, I'm somewhat convinced that knee high boots today are coming up higher as I'm really struggling to find ones that don't go (partially) over my knee. I tried a couple of second hand ones in the consignment shops and they all came in at a decent length for me. There was a pairs of YSL ones that had the perfect shape but they were a greenish taupe and had a lot of water damage and a band around the ankle that you had to unbuckle every time you took them off Hmm perhaps not if you have normal arches, anyhow they still wanted €200 for them, at a lower price I would have potentially taken a risk and attempt to rehab/redyed them.

I've kind of lost track of all that I tried on in Antwerp, it was a lot. I only ended up buying a silk top with a t-back at Christian Wijnants in a cement grey. Not the best colour with my current winter pallor but it'll look good with a bit of colour on me. It's lovely, bit peeved I can't wear it now but will be able to on vacation in a few weeks. Not upset to have not found more, always great when I do find more, but I get pretty ruthless that I have to be absolutely 100% about it or leave it to avoid post sample sales buyer's remorse as it does seem to bring together FOMO, descriptive bargains, and general frenzy.

It was a lot busier than previous years, lines weren't long but you did have to wait forever. It was the first time I didn't manage to visit everything on my list and it was a narrowed down list. Think I'll plan for a two day visit next time or just stick to the known addresses and not give the young up and comers a chance. Next time supposedly the week of May 4 (usually Wed-Sat, but some do start Thu and others end Sun). New organisation will only announce official dates a month in advance. Can't remember who asked for the dates, Red?

Ok, pics. Managed to get a quick snap of an outfit at Dries van Noten, I debated the top (the light really doesn't flatter it on the pic, it read less encaged sausage in RL) as I do appreciate a wool fitted top like that but mostly they're fitted on top and just sit straight, this one actually followed my contours but I decided against it as it was a bit odd on the shoulders with the seam partially out and it didn't sit right whenever I moved, you can see it a bit on the phone arm, it would require constant readjusting. Skirt was a reminder why I need to stay away from frumpy pleated midis.

Was very attracted to the fabrics ends for sale, really liked this at DvN, had enough material to make a skirt from, potentially a dress, but my machine really doesn't take thin slippy fabrics well. I am toying with the idea of trying my hand at sewing again, if it goes anywhere I'll upgrade my machine and I'll stock up on fabrics at the next sales.

Random coat at Ann Demeulemeester, way too much volume and it felt a bit too much like a straight jacket even though the strap wasn't even tightening up when it was supposed too.

bo, my knee high boots are quite a few years old, perhaps that's why. They're duo boots, so have a calf measurement, not sure why they don't do height too. It means that they need to be wider as the top hits my calf muscle rather than the narrower bit under my knee.

I know what you mean about pleated midis, they just remind me of school uniform skirts. The fabric is lovely, on the skirt as well as the second photo.

ToEllewithIt · 08/11/2019 13:51

I remember the collection that the fabric is from; it would make a lovely skirt / top / dress.

I actually really like the straitjacket coat. I think with different trousers it would be super cool.

Pleated midis are desperately hard to wear. I rarely see anyone who I think that they look good on.

I agree with both of you that knee-highs have got taller as I used to struggle for height, but don't anymore. I still struggle with width though which is why I usually go for something with a loose shaft. I did get a fitted pair of Gianvito Rossi boots from Vestiaire and they fit well, but they are the only ones I've tried that aren't too loose on me.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 08/11/2019 15:23

I have ordered the Bobbies boots as they came back in stock. I will report back!
