Cross-post, there... I often wonder about Toss and the other early posters.

Hi all, we’re thankfully getting to the final stages of the renovation and it’s getting slightly frenetic so I’ve been preoccupied with that, but I’ve missed you all!

I’m still mulling over coats here and reminiscing over the two that got away. I still have feelings for them… First there was the grey version of the Acne Carice that I bought second-and in London. The grey version somehow made it into the sale section of the LocalFancyDepartmentStore ™ at 50% off and I felt that it would have been excessive to buy a second identical coat, only now I wish I had because I wear the camel one all the time. The other coat that is haunting me is that green Raey one, a hairy green ghost if you will. I must set Ebay alerts for them.

I like the boots Bo, but if it’s not absolute love, then maybe leave them. So speaks the woman whose regrets are the things she didn’t buy (Je ne regrette rien…sauf le manteaux vert?) I did take the plunge on some very expensive boots last year (Gianvito Rossi – Laura) and I’ve worn them loads, the mid-heel and almond toe are really practical, but they are a bit slouchy which I don’t mind.

Nice jacket red

max you look great in the Christening outfit and I love the jumpsuit too. I think that the shoes will absolutely go with it. I hope the day goes well.

Enjoy Dublin bani buy the trousers!

Buys here have been a dress from The Fold for work and a Cos top and a Zara Jacquemus-alike top.

Elle, the dip back top on the left is similar to the Jigsaw ballet top that was mentioned awhile back. I love mine and the colour of that one looks fab, was that the Cos top you mentioned?

Yes it’s the Cos one. Oooh I think I missed your top, what colour was it?

Love that Jigsaw topMethen. I’ve been looking for a top to wear with a new navy pleated skirt and that seems like a good candidate.

Jigsaw top looks great. I love the neckline. I think I was a bit influenced by the corporate ballerina chat and bought this sweater in pale pink Confused in Lisbon. It’s a gorgeous sweater, but the colour does nothing for me.

Beautiful top Elle, I love a dropped rear neck line, I think partially because it's less obvious than a low front and also because I spent my teens/20s with my back always covered due to awful skin.

I have a ballet wrap top in a pale pink and I keep it because I love the style but it does make me look really washed out, even with a tan.

I'm after some comfortable/ reasonably waterproof footwear as my Ralph Lauren pale pink trainers have seen better days; I like the look of Veja but they're a bit ubiquitous now. I did spy some in Zara that didn't have any obvious branding which I liked but think white is a poor idea for my current lifestyle and am also a bit bored of that Insta/Stan Smith look. Eldest son was looking at Vanns in Manchester and quite liked some of those, they had a waterproof range but were about £90.

I'm wearing a sort of drapey v-neck longsleeve back to front today. It's almost like a ballerina top. I like an exposed back but you don't come across them that often. Sezane have a fair bit of it usually, but they go really low and I do prefer the ones that you can still wear a bra with.

Ahem, my demands for an advent calendar were a complete joke Blush Worst thing anyone can do is buy me an advent calendar as my skin is far too sensitive and I'm allergic to fragrance. Generally, I hate the idea of what they've become these days beyond the innocuous child's chocolate ones and similar. I think it was a rant on the subject resulted in the creation of the first advent calendar on here.

I'm going to vow to stop talking boots for a bit. I'm still inclined to keep them as it's just been so problematic since sizing down it's just become so difficult to find things that fit. Feet have gone down 2-2.5 sizes and I've slimmed down to narrow calves and that combination seems to be really problematic. It seems a weak argument but I'm another who regrets the things I haven't bought/kept more than the things I have bought. If I had come across a cheaper pair that ticked most but not all boxes I'd buy them as a placeholder. I don't absolutely love them on their own but I love what they do for an outfit.

Last night trying others has confirmed this and rather unhelpfully I've fallen head over heels for these Chloé boots, official colour is deep purple but they're much more a burgundy/claret as in pic 1. They look better in the flesh, unfortunately my size was an odd fit, they've ordered in a half size down for me which I'll go and fit later this afternoon. Not what I've been looking for at all, has my hated seams down the middle and I don't care, stupidly expensive. Joy. I heavily predict I'll be whining on here later that the half size down was too small. (They do exist in smooth leather in a darkish tan colour but they do absolutely nothing for me).

Methen, Vejas are indeed a bit ubiquitous at the moment, and some models are really uncomfortable but they do have that sustainability angle going for them, not that they're the only ones though. Those all birds seem popular which are made of natural fibres, I think. They'll probably be the next ubiquitous ones. I know a lot of men who have Vans, they love them and swear they're the comfiest thing ever. However, I'm a bit of the opinion their posture goes a bit to the wayside in them and they do seem to wear the heels on the extreme outer edges.

Trying to catch up with the new thread. red, I love the tonal look with the blazer, I'm really into the dark green this autumn! festiva that Temperley blouse and trousers look great, trousers are always a good option for formal occasions I think. The jumpsuit is great as well, very versatile. I like the boots, bo, but I like the chunky ones better I think.

Hello new thread, hello everyone, happy anniversary, etc.

Been reading along but not contributing anything as I haven't bought much recently except a navy cashmere jumper from John Lewis (been hoarding up a gift voucher from last Christmas) and a sale Jaeger knitted dress for winter. Oh and some perfume samples just for fun.

We have sold our flat and are moving in December, not that we actually have anywhere to move to yet. Panic and freak out, etc.

I've tried a few jumpsuits but can't find one to suit being short and curvy so I've given up for the present.

I like my Vejas, but they take a while to break in. The leather on the tongue was seriously stiff.

I have allbirds too and have had a few pairs. They’re seriously comfortable, you don’t need socks, but I also think that they’re very casual so I wear them mucking around with the kids and for traveling. They fill a different spot to the Vejas in my wardrobe.

On the trainer front, I have worn the Geox high tops that I bought from tkmaxx in spring, loads. They're a pewter leather, we're a little stiff to start with but have worn in nicely. They're lined, so on the warmer side and really comfortable, as someone who walks lots and the metallic colour goes with most things.

I notice Style magazine had a how to wear a tartan skirt article (last weekend's, I'm always playing catch up with supplements), I think You magazine had something similar.

I have been tempted by those all birds by some time, I might get them after my non shop stint has passed.
Out of curiosity, is wearing Christmas jumper a british thing? I mean , do French/Dutch/Swedish do them as well?
I personally never wore them, since getting into November I have been thinking about Christmas... just wondering

How did you get on with the boots botemp?

red I don’t remember Christmas jumpers even being a thing in the UK when I grew up. They feel very recent to me.

DH is going to Paris this week and has some spare time and has volunteered to pick up anything I might want. Of course now I can’t think of anything other than Macarons!

I thought Geox were notoriously leaky through their 'breathing' sole. Granted this was when they'd just expanded outside of Italy years and years ago and my aunt complained bitterly that they just didn't understand Northern European weather.

Congrats on the sale Catherine 🥂 Must have come with some uncertainty in these times. Hope you find somewhere to move to soon.

Christmas jumpers definitely not a thing here, Red. I always thought it was an American thing that came to the UK at some point? Maybe it's the other way round.

We barely 'do' Christmas here, we have Sinterklaas in early December as the main present giving holiday, although it's really a children's holiday. None of the crazy excess with gifts at Christmas that I read about here, definitely no gift giving to everyone you know (something small for children under the Christmas tree at most but it's not the norm), Christmas cards really only exchanged by those of a certain age. Nice dinner, Christmas tree, the last few diligent Christians head to church, walk in the woods with the family on Christmas day and that's about it.

The Germans may do jumpers, though it won't be a fun ironcit thing, they'll be deadly serious about it alongside their special Christmas dinner set, breakfast set, cutlery, glasses, mugs, etc. etc.

Chloe boots were predictably too small, can't really justify my normal size if they're launching the back of my feet up in the air unsupported. I've been googling for solutions but coming up with nothing so far, half insole won't work due to high arches, thick socks won't work as they're narrow at the front. Sigh.

Elle, meant to mention earlier, Zara has two coats that look very similar to the Carice coat. Just crappier material, a few colour choices. I quite like the mink.

Coat and other coat. Hope links work with regional settings and all that.

I dunno but it seems like a new trend? I don't remember ever having them when I was little, and now everyone thinks you're a grinch if you don't wear one. :)

I date the Christmas jumper craze from the first Bridget Jones movie - the scene where she meets Colin Firth (also one of the few moments where I thought the film worked better than the book).

The swedes have started wearing xmas jumpers more or less ironically, definitely commercially - can confirm.

I did not get the tweed trousers in Dublin (am home now) and am sort of kicking myself even though I know I wouldn’t have altered them. It’s so cold now though, would love a bit of tweed. Was going to get a modern Aran jumper in one of thre vaguely diddelieydi shops but they didn’t have a model I fell in love with. Regret it a little anyway, should maybe have dug a bit.

I had ordered the attached trousers from H&M before i left because I had a discount and with that they were a decent price I thought. Sadly they were too loose (!!!) in a 42. Was so annoyed I sent them back. Colour was good though, filled a bit of a gap. I have two pairs of trousers now basically, both black. Am tired of the mad green ones.

Will be back and comment properly later.

Wikipedia claims it was UK TV hosts in the 1980s 🤷 I don't really consider Wikipedia all that reliable though.

Elle, send him by Jacques Genin for their famous caramels and chocolate (and a picture of the window display for the DC). He can get macarons from Laduree at CDG to assure their survival. There may be a Pierre Herme there too, but not sure on that.

Oh which ones I wonder? We never, ever had an office Christmas jumper day in the 80s though.

Oh I see. Yeah Andy Williams and Val Doonican wore them but they most definitely were not cool or even ironic.
