Right, have had dinner and am decidedly less pissy, ignore previous rantings. I've been going through outfit pics of the last week or two, maybe three even. I've been rather unsuccessfully trying to make an Erdem X H&M lace shirt work for me. Felt a bit too much like a generational interloper with the camisole on top but it was the best effort so far. Tried it on with a camisole dress at Zara and felt even more like an idiot 🤦 I'm running out of ideas as it really does tend to lean country frumpkin quite easily.

I've probably been embracing black and monochrome a bit too much lately, meh, at least I'm having fun with patterns whilst getting distracted by ankle boots I don't need.

More all black but the trench saves it somewhat.

I found a Céline look alike jumper at Cos with the jumper on jumper look, proportionally it's a bit odd with the jeans as I wear them low rise but I'm just a bit lost how to wear it with a coat on top. The extra pair of sleeves are detachable but not easily taken on and off and the jumper on its own is a bit of a dud. If Cos is just going to steal stuff from the advent calendar at least consult me for a horrendously high fee and I would have advised to make it out of mohair or similar so it could just flatten down under a coat.

Different day at Cos much more of an autumn palette but it was definitely colder that day and much more winter like. I'll probably move on to wearing lots of all white soon Grin

Hell yes whatever happened to my Ibiza wedding? Eh?

bani does this mean we're Uniqlo U denim twins? And how can any style of jeans be too young? They've been mainstream fashion since the 1950s - it's like saying T shirts are too young.

Thanks all for keeping me on the glitter-free straight and narrow.I seem to have fallen behind and missed all the Antwerp pics but will go and catch up now. Hope you're feeling better soon bo

I fell off the world of fashion yet again due to hospital stays but I'll be investing in a tote! Or two.
I'm still looking for clothes that look interesting as well as being supremely warm and comfortable, not too tight. It's complicated. So far I have a man's cashmere polo neck which is nicely oversized and some completely flat over knee boots which I wear under midi skirts.
I'm looking for some lower waist trousers too. Not the most fashionable cut now of course. I keep thinking of this sort of thing.

Good to see you Bloomed and I hope you're making progress with your health.

That's a great pic! Interesting, warm and comfortable always makes me think Cos and Toast although I don't know what they're like for low waisted trousers at the moment. There are quite a lot in charity shops if you're in a position to go round them?

I like the look of those Arket trousers Bani for me it would depend on quality if I would get them or not. If they are a bit meh but are just a classic trousers that fit well and are a good quality, and I can afford them and is a definite gap I would get them.
A lot of ifs in that decision making.

Hope you are feeling better Bo

bloomed glad you are back chipping in this thread! I like very much the image you sent. That type of trousers makes me think men’s suit trousers? With a belt? Maybe getting taken them up if too long? Do you have a half of similar ish size that you could experiment?
Saw this in massimo duti not sure if low enough but maybe a size up with a belt?
I don’t know if any of my ideas are any good!! Feel like random brainstorming Grin

Loving the last few pictures from bloomed and red. Especially the shoes in the MD picture.... I cannot buy any more shoes. Or trousers, I have plenty.

Winter white is so so good in cities, in dry weather. In the rain and mud, for a dog owner, the effect lasts under 10 minutes!

I fancy an Ibiza wedding right now, Flo. Is all well in the sodden North?

I'm with bani on the Arket trousers and the ridicule tote. Though I like them all, 'be more Aunt Larry' somehow feels too insider.

Flowers Bloomed, glad to see you posting again.

I have actually been stumbling across low waist trousers like that but in odd places, TkMaxx and the sample sales. The Acne Studios trousers I bought from Vinted are also shaped like that. I don't think they sit well on a lot of people but I am somewhat suspecting they're making a comeback. Attached are the ones from TKMaxx, they're by Current Elliot but I was on the fence about them so I left them. They were still there when I was in there the other day so I'm probably right that they don't flatter a lot of people. My main issue with the trousers is that I don't have a lot that's long enough to meet the lower waist without it looking off.

I think Uniqlo always has an elasticated version in their work wear collection but those are always poly blends.

I'm not sure if the shape is officially carrot trousers or not, but those do seem to be popular in menswear at the moment, so probably easiest to find there.

I've forgotten about the Ibiza wedding so plans cannot have been too firm!

Bloomed, the Cos trousers I scored for 4 euro (did I mention?) are of a similar type, but a little too high waisted. I think you're right to look for a lower waist, because the higher waists are trickier with the tapered shape. They tend to "apple" me a bit I've noticed. I don't care for 4 (did I mention?) euro, I can try it out a bit. I wore them with the v-neck merino jumper from Uniqlo and it felt very mannish, a bit school uniform! Pissed me off a little. Tips on how to feminise them welcome.

Bo, you tried on the "jumper with detachable scarf" right? Did you see their other extra-sleeves jumper? www.cosstores.com/en_sek/women/womenswear/knitwear/jumpers/product.versatile-wool-jumper-beige.0802136001.html "Versatile wool jumper". I can't figure out from the photos how those sleeves detach - you kind of wriggle out of a top layer? It's looks like a smarter, more sleek design though. Maybe that's the one they stole from you!

Flo, the jeans are young because baggy 90s jeans are in among the young. Feck it, I'm keeping them. Am wearing them today. Hemmed them yesterday (using the topstitching thread like a bawse!). Haven't cut them yet though because am not sure if they'll shrink first wash? Also not sure if I want to keep the option of rollling them up but I don't really think so...

I saw some white wool blend trousers in Mango's outlet www.mangooutlet.com/se-en/women/trousers-palazzo/recycled-wool-suit-trousers_31057653.html?c=05&n=1&s=search For a mad moment I was quite keen. Still am now that I look at them again, the moment hasn't passed! Realistically, being Mango, the quality will be a little shit and they'll be see-through.

I don't think the other jumper has detachable sleeves. I haven't seen that one but I think it is a wiggle out of it thing, it definitely looks connected as a double layer at the bottom. It wouldn't work for me worn like that, way too much bulk around the waist.

Those Mango trousers were actually part of the committed collection. They were actually quite nice. I may have tried them on, I'll see if I took a pic. Can't remember transparency, maybe around the pockets?

Oh, also, thanks for well wishes but it is just my period and it's like this every month 🤷

Trying to catch up with everyone. bani, you may well be right about the Charlotte Chesnais jewellery. It looks like great every day jewellery but very expensive!

Lots of lovely trousers. I also love the shoes on the md picture (I think Xing and I must have very similar taste in footwear). I live in a city, but would not wear winter white shoes, far too much muddy leaves on our pavements atm mean I look like I've tramped through a field to just walk down the road Hmm.

There are no words for the JB sweater.

Lovely to see you again Bloomed. I hope you are feeling in better health.

I have a tie sweater from Esprit, but it just has a tie around the waist. It's not too bulky, I think it's a cotton cashmere mix, so not warm enough for the present weather. Mine is longline, so is better with slimmer trousers or skirts.

Thanks Flo, I'm not up and about now but I think you're right on charity shops. Or maybe ebay if I know exactly what I'm looking for.

redandblue those look very comfy but might not be low enough (I'm short and small-scale generally apart from belly and bust, my hips are oddly narrow so low waists are more flattering anyway). Similar problem with menswear trousers. But it's right on the money that they're a menswear shape. Perhaps higher end trousers for teen boys would work?
Maybe sizing up with a belt will work to get the slouch too I have some nice belts which are underused.
I've tried finding out where the pictured trousers are from btw with no luck. As she was on French Vogue staff they're probably Hedi Slimane or Balmain Hmm.

Those Current Elliot trousers are very nice Bo. I'll see if I can get to a txmaxx soon. I'll have a look through the uniqlo site. Incidentally there seems to be less stuff on the UK site than before in terms of range and stock. Or maybe it's just me.

Today I have a (anti fashion?) Mountain warehouse puffa coat arriving, having trashed a lovely coat recently, along with some heated gloves.

Banivani I think Cos is a good idea. Maybe vintage Cos to get the low rise shape. Would a drapey top or jacket work to feminise your trousers? Something all saints/Rick Owens style?

I've just remembered Comptoir de C always had well cut low waisted carrot trousers. They still do some here although for the money I'd be expecting a better fabric content.

Some other options in wool on there too, but by eye they seem to sit somewhere between mid and low waisted depending on shape (they'd be low waisted on me but I think on narrow hips they'd probably err on mid waisted unless you sized up).

If anyone wants my low-waisted Stella McC for H&M trousers, that I stalked since about 2011/12 online only to finally buy this year and realise with horror that the low waist is not for me anymore - let me know. Wonderful swishy wool quality. I hate wearing them. Sz 42. Wide legs natch.

Bloomed what does this mean Something all saints/Rick Owens style? je suis pas au courant?

Bo that would be my luck that they were lovely trousers (but I am guessing too transparent on the pockets and just cleverly photographed) forcing me to make a decision! Btw I think Ugly models is a better name than mrs Robinson models. Latter more offensive since she was not nice and predatory.

Bani, The Times' letters column had a diverting correspondence about glorious clubs you might not want to join, including the Rough Common Women's Institute, the Idle Working Men's Club, the Slack WI, and the Ugley WI (which had been rejigged as the WI of Ugley). Welcome light relief from all the political opinions being expressed elsewhere.

Report
botemp · 13/11/2019 13:45

I instantly want to join all of those! Which is saying something as I hate all manner of clubs.

My judgement is still out (and I can't be arsed to Google) whether Ugly Models is just a tongue in cheek all our models are ridiculously gorgeous (and I must admit I always notice Pam and love the way she gets dressed, her personality always shines through, I secretly suspect she's the stylists' favourite) or if it's just a performative woke name that's signalling they represent models that were traditionally overlooked for the young and the svelte and look at us owning the word 'ugly' we're so #brave. Either way it annoys me, and makes a mockery of people who regularly get ugly thrown at them as an insult.

Mrs Robinson doesn't even leave it ambiguous to its meaning, just, bleurgh. Although being predatory as a model probably not a bad thing since they're usually prey. And no expectations to be nice just cause, also not a bad thing. I may not hate the name as much after all...

Can I boast away that I am wearing 100% pre loved clothes today? (Excluding underwear, shoes and scarf)
Pls don’t take me the wrong way, I am not better / worse for doing it, just chuffed with my non buying phase and my ups and downs trying desperately not to buy (bloody difficult).
So I have navy trousers (cannot remember brand) normally worn by “older” English ladies but fits so well!
Sonya riekel knitted long sleeve top (I would save this if house was burning) in navy, mustard and another blue tone.
Reiss coat
from charity shop, dress agency and eBay bought in the last two years.
I just had to share as bored in the train I realised that for first time.

Nice boast Red! I'm wearing a second-hand pure merino dress which reminds me of a very respectable 'mother of the bride' store where I grew up. But it's so warm.
I'm very keen on the Stella x H&M trousers. They might be slightly too big for me now but I've developed a curious uncontrolled shapeshifting ability to gain and lose stones, so they may fit by next week.
If you PM me what you would like for them, I'll get my tape measure out.

Rick Owens drapey top images attached. All Saints have done similar which I've worn to threads. I think they look feminine with an edge and found them very flattering. Would you find that shape useful?

Bloomed, absolutely what I would wear! I was just thinking that I've had to get rid of a drapey top by sandwich (was second hand) that was bobbling horribly that I need to replace.

Report
botemp · 14/11/2019 08:15

Oh I own the second top, except in a sleeveless version and not as transparent and in a darker khaki green. I love it to bits as it's ridiculously flattering and have a matching plain longsleeve from RO that I can wear underneath it without anyone noticing.
