If you could buy any high street bag right now, what would it be?

Off the back of another of my threads, I want to get a better bag collection. I can't really afford anything £100+ at the moment so I'm looking for bags on the high street that look more expensive than they are.

It's a broad brief, I know, but I'm open to different styles. I'd like something that I could use every day for the essentials - phone, purse, keys, make up, bottle of water, kindle.

I like a bag that has the option of a cross body. I tend to go for tan and black, so ideally something a little more interesting would be good.

Anyone recently bought one they love or have their eye on one they'd snap up immediately if they could?

The white stuff and fat face are two very ordinary shops that do good simple leather bags.

Try Etsy

Slightly over your budget but I absolutely love this recent purchase. So soft and perfect size for every day use.

I’d have a good look in TK Maxx or hold off for the sales that will be here soon for Black Friday, if you can combine a sale price with a cashback site you could get something lovely. A little more than your budget but I got a Coach bag for £120 and I love it.

I'm tempted by this from New Look, it's got a Birkin-esque style that I really love. I usually only buy black or tan bags but might branch out with this for £25!

If you live near an outlet village like Bista or Cheshire oaks. You can get Radley/ Michael Kors / Fossil and other branded bags for under £100 when they have on additional 20% outlet prices. You also have a wide selection at outlet villages are people usually go there to buy leather goods.

John Lewis own brand are fantastic leather bags for about £80

Why do you want a bag collection? If you want something practical, I have an excellent bag by Travelon, cross-body or shoulder worn, it's slash-proof and the zips clip closed to stop small children and pick-pockets from getting into it. It has a useful array of pockets for phones, water bottle, & RDF pocket for cards, passport. I bought for a trip to Barcelona because I'd heard that bag-slashing was rife, but found it so useful I just chucked my regular h/b. It cost £54. For weddings etc. I have one small navy leather bag and one cream bag that sit in the back of the wardrobe. If you're a mother/grandmother, this is a practical choice. Wasn't it Victoria Beckham that started off this bag thing? I'm sure you can impress people in other ways than wearing a bit of cow-hide around your neck!

I love the Cos bags a little more expensive but it’s true what they say you get what you pay for xx

deedeegee · 04/11/2019 18:05

Try TJ Hughes

keepingbees · 04/11/2019 18:07

Have a look at Dune. Most aren't real leather but they are well made and look nice.

DontCallMeShitley · 04/11/2019 18:18

I have never seen the attraction of Radley bags, never quite the right size and they don't look that expensive.

My bag collection is varied though, my favourites are Fossil, and some vintage ones including a David Jones one which is unusual, Moschino, vintage River Island. You can get some used Mulberry ones that look good if new is a bit out of budget. Be careful with 'pre-loved' designer ones unless they can be verified but plenty out there.
