Help me find the Holy Grail of concealers!

I'm after a concealer that does a good job camouflaging dark circles but also doesn't sink into fine lines under the eyes AND doesn't look too matte. Any suggestions?

Ones I've tried are MAC Pro Longwear, Nars Radiant Creamy, Collection Lasting Perfection and Smashbox Studio Skin. All have various pluses and minuses but all crease unless I use powder to set them. But that also accentuates any lines as it gives my undereye area a very "flat" look. I have a Becca under eye primer but that tends to be too slippery under my concealer unless I set it with powder and then we're back to square one!

Does a concealer that meets all my requirements even exist?

Tarte Shape Tape!

IT cosmetics

I love Clinique beyond perfecting. I had not used Clinique products for about 20 years but I was given a sample of this and it’s great.

Love the Bourjois radiant reveal one. I’ve tried lots and this one doesn’t settle in the fine lines. It’s a liquid formula so not matte.

Shape tape by tarte is my holy grail

HeyMicky · 27/10/2019 18:40

Bye bye under eye from IT Cosmetics

nicannie · 27/10/2019 18:50

@QueenOfTheAndals I like the Mac and the Nars one as I do have and use them both. But I also have this one and it's not as thick nor creamy as others and definitely covers, oh and it's much cheaper! It's Maybelline instant conceal eraser, I use the lightest one for my dark circles 🙂

Thanks for all the recommendations, I sense as shopping trip coming up soon!

Has anyone tried Trinny's concealer or Fenty?

Have you tried Estée Lauder double wear? X

Loopytiles · 27/10/2019 18:59

A friend recommends an armani one.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2019 19:06

I haven't @Curlysusie but the name leads me to think it'll be too matte and drying.

I've tried
Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer, good at hiding dark circles but highlights every line.
Clinique, quite good consistency but doesn't cover very well.
Clarins, perfecter something, great results, doesn't settle in lines but only lasts an hour or two.
Watching with interest.

icecreamsundae32 · 27/10/2019 19:20

I use Estée Lauder double wear concealer. I've also tried lots but found like you I have to set it with powder for it to be effective. Since using the setting powder I no longer notice it in the fine creases under my eyes, so it might be worth a try.

The Aldi dupe of Touche eclat is brilliant & so cheap around £3, you just have to watch for them coming on special buys, or Boots No7 have got one that is almost the same but more expensive around £12.

milliefiori · 27/10/2019 19:30

I'm really happy with the Bobbi Brown one (concealer stick.) I've almost used it up. Usually my concealers grow old and get thrown out because I'm not happy with them and try something else. But this one is really quick to apply, long lasting and best of all, it blends really well, so you can over blemishes and it just looks like skin tone.

milliefiori · 27/10/2019 19:31

@NoOrangeTwirl - I learned an application online tip - you just dab it on, never smooth it in with strokes. Then it doesn't show up every line.

MoltoAgitato · 27/10/2019 19:32

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage

BlobbyTheLump · 27/10/2019 19:38

My cheap favourite would be MUA pro base. It's excellent.

I love Boing by Benefit for under eye.

Fenty Pro Filt'r is absolutely brilliant too.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/10/2019 20:01

@BlobbyTheLump is it the MUA one that's supposed to be a dupe of Tarte's Shape Tape? Or is that one by Revolution?

I sympathise with you - as someone who battles with very dark circles and a fortune spent on concealers over the years. But just by chance I got the best advice from a YouTube video. Don't powder your concealer... Dab a little oil with your finger after a light application. I like Collection lasting perfection - as you mention - but in yellow. Not a skin tone. It never creases (and I am pretty old so lots of lines) and provides that glow that you seem to want rather than matte. I have Superdrug facial oil but jojoba or squalane would be just as good. Try it and I hope it works for you!

Hey1256 · 27/10/2019 21:01

Nars radiant concealer is one of the most raves about and for a reason it's beautiful

Laura9286 · 27/10/2019 21:17

She tried Nars.....

Laura9286 · 27/10/2019 21:18

I like the Too Faced Born This Way in the chunky bottle..the newest one. I'm 51...

Orangesox · 27/10/2019 21:22

CHANEL - LE CORRECTEUR DE CHANEL is my go to concealer now. It’s the only one that doesn’t settle in fine lines or seem to dry up my under eyes despite needing to cover my raccoon / black eye effect dark circles.
