Calling all style gurus! I need to help my 17 year old (much) younger sister to find a stylish and modern navy suit for 6th form. She is looking for jacket, trousers and skirt (preferably fitted with a flare at the hem). We can't seem to find anything! Any help gratefully received. Desperation has had an impact on our budget so anything goes!

Many thanks,
Moneyspider

these?

Not really- too stripey and a weird collar came the cry! Thanks for looking though. Any others? At all? {looks at navy blinds in lounge with a vague but hopeful smile a la Maria in the Sound of Music....}

NExt have Navy in their new catalogue

Grrrr- Austin Reed would have been good, but only an 18 left in the jacket! Great suggestion, though.

My daughter has spent the past two years in a VIth form with a requirement that they wear a (relatively formal) black business suit of their own choice, although they weren't allowed trousers.

We found the best combination of practicality, style, quality and value was M & S range of machine washable suits. The basic jacket and skirt (choice of styles for this) was £50 total and I'm fairly certain that the range also includes trousers and comes in navy too. The other place to try is Tesco. They certainly did a smart navy suit last year although I don't think there was a choice of skirt style.

Have to say that my daughter and her fellow VIth formers all looked great in their choices so the task of finding suits was worthwhile. Good hunting!

Thanks so much for all your suggestions. I have found a basic trouser suit in Tesco which may be appropriate..hopefully they'll have some skirts in soon. I love the stuff in esprit, but it only seems to be available in black. If I find the perfect combination, I'll let you all know!
