Aftershave for 20 yr old boy at uni

My son asked for 'perfume' or Eau de Toilette for Xmas. He did not say aftershave ( i was wondering whether he was trying to tell me something, like he wants to be on Rupaul's DRAG Race, but no. He honestly sees men's fragrance as just that,.
I bought him Paco Rabanne last year, but he finds it too 'alcholy'.
I have advised him to try going into a dept store and trying out fragrances, ( he's too inhibited to do that; I also suggested he ask anyone else he likes the smell of to tell him what they use, again, he wouldn't do that)
Any ideas..?.I have told him I can't really choose for him, but have resigned myself to having to do it.
Is Antaeus too dated?

It could be fun to take him somewhere like Penhaligons and get him to try several scents. I did that wth DS1 and he loved it. Then surprised him with a scent he really loved.

Ds wears Boss,Hillfigger and Armani.

Jean Paul Gaultier is nice.

My university student ds is nearly 20 . I ask him if he wants any eau de toilette he just shrugs. (He has a beard so no aftershave) he won't ask his mates either. I took dd into the Fragrance shop she wanted a Stella McCartney perfume. I sometimes smell really nice scents on young men but I cannot ask them without it sounding weird "oh you smell nice it's for my son I'm not a mad stalker" . Years ago on eastenders dot cotton bought "ooo savage" for her dh 😁

Abercrombie Fitch Fierce. My friend gave my son this when he was at uni. We laughed at the bottle, it has the picture of a well toned male torso on it, but he said that lots of his friends, both male and female,would comment, asking what aftershave he had on and what a lovely aftershave he was wearing.
