dinner at the Ivy - what to wear?

I just have no idea. I mean the place has a glam reputation but it's actually very ordinary from what I can gather (our first time there).

I have a super pair of new shoes - silver satin peep toes by Kurt Geiger got 'em on sale (whoo hoo) or are these even too flash for this place?

Can I do a floral sundress? Or would a silk number be better? Not boring LBD please...

Thanks!!

whatever you like! honestly, they have shepherd's pie on the menu - how glam do you think it is ?

re the shoes - you have to negotiate a large flight of stairs to get into the dining room, so don't wear anything to hazardous. But otherwise, really, anything goes. the staff are so nice they make you feel comfy whatever.

Lovely shoes! If you're in the mood to dress up, I'd go for it. (I've worn jeans, but then I'm a scruffy oik)

Went there a few weeks ago! Dh called them and got a cancellation on a mad "we are leaving London soon lets go for it" splurge. Wore flowery dress that was tight and quite smart and flat shoes. Regretted the flat shoes and wished had worn heels. It is smart but sort of buzzy rather than the hush hush formal dining you get in really posh places.

Saw Rebekah Wade editor of Sun at next table. She was in black top and v fashionable tight knee length skirt and very high heels. So go with the silver shoes I think.

V funny in that when you walk it everyone looks round then looks disappointed as you're not famous. Although maybe you are famous..

so glad the shoes will work!

am dying to wear something other than trousers because it's our first proper date since the 2nd kid came along and I've worked like hell to get the baby bump off!!

just hating everything in my wardrobe === grrr

Dh took m e there for Sunday lunch as part of our first wedding anniversary (whilst we were staying at the Dorchester).
Only thing was, I was 7 months pregnant....not such a glam look really.

Hurrah for the shoes.

Don't over-dress, be comfortable.

DH took a pee with Steve Martin in The Ivy once.

ooh been out for dinner when really pg. So funny the looks you get. Of course I was always having a glass of champagne so maybe it was that and not my bump! Got so much use out of a stella silk wrap dress for H&M when pg - can't even bear wearing it now though reminds me of being the size of a boat.

Oh well look now MrsB has said it, can I just sidle up behind her and say I'm really quite a fan of the LBD.

Simple, stylish can be worn with lots of things. Better than flowery sundress every time.

Failing that, I'm all for MrsB's fencing gear as a last resort.

Am going to look at the dress thread now.

Alright - given crap weather an LBD may not be such a bad idea after all! I do have a little silk floral number on hand though if I'm feeling more frocky. And the silver shoes.

Will let you know how it all went - we go tonight.
