Switching hairdressers

I’ve been going to the same hairdressers (national chain) for a couple of years since moving to the area. The greys have been coming through thick and fast since my early 30s, so colouring is really important to me and I’ve accepted that it’s worth the cost and trips every 6 weeks to maintain my original hair colour.

The thing is, although I’ve always been happy with the end result, the service isn’t that great. During the last three appointments I have been forgotten about at the back wash for 45 mins with wet hair, had to have my hair re-washed because the dye has not all out, cold water, hair pulled to move my head and botched blow-dries by trainees, they’ve forgot to put me under the heater for 30 mins....it’s just definitely not worth the premium I’ve been paying!

So enough is enough, I’m switching hairdressers...the thing is how do I go about obtaining details about the colour/s being used currently, so I can pass this on to the next salon? Do/have people done this? From what I’ve been told my hair is difficult to lift, so don’t want a learning curve with the next hairdresser.

Has anyone asked for this info before leaving?...I’m just cringing thinking about it!

You don’t have to tell them that you’re leaving so it doesn’t have to be awkward - phone them and breezily ask what colour products they used during your last appointment. I doubt they’d ask why but if they do, just say that you really like it and are just curious, or tell a white lie that you’re moving away and might have to try another branch of the same national chain.

Otherwise you can always ask the trainees who would probably give you the information no questions asked! Some salons like Toni and guy print out the colour formulation when they prep your colour, my old stylist used to leave this near me.

Also if you are going to another branch of the same chain, they might be able to access this information from your account!

One more thing, your new salon may use different brands so regardless of having the formulation you might not be able to have the exact same product again - but this is okay, it might even turn out better!

Thanks so much for this Throwaway. It'll have to be a different company/chain as I'm in a smallish town. My hair's pretty long, so changes in colour always seem to be visible under a new colour. It takes ages to grow them out, hence the reason I tend to stick to the same salon, even if I'm not 100% happy. You guessed correctly Smile...perhaps I'll ask the receptionist to print the formulation out if they can do that.
