Please help, I am panicking about clothes!

Returning to work in a finance office. Dont 'do' clothes. Three days a week. VERY limited budget - think around £10 per piece, only a few pieces until pay comes in. Have literally lived in jeans and poundland t-shirts for the last few years. :( NO style at all! No idea what is now acceptable to wear or not.

Help?

I currently have black trousers. A pair of white three-quarter trousers? and a black top. Oh and a sort of brown tartan pattern type trousers bought at Sainsbury's for the interview if you know the ones from being in there recently.

Literally no idea where to start. :(

Please dont judge :(

Buy a dress, also a thin polo neck or long sleeve t shirt to match your brown pants, a collared shirt to go with your other pants and if you can match to your Brown pants that’s good too. Maybe look for a neutral jacket in a charity shop which can be worn with all your stuff?
George at Asda is really good for cheap workwear i.e. shirts.

Yes to charity shops. Also Uniqlo sale section online - lots of workwear, often some great bargains to be had!

Actually, given you already have bottoms halves, I'd also go down the suggested cardis and shirts route. Easier to wear shoes with unless youre a habitually skirt wearer.

Charity shop finds i find to be a bit hit and miss. For every success I've probably had one that just looks wrong in the real world. You really want sure fire hits at this stage. You can't go wrong with black trousers/skirt , shirt/polo neck and cardi. Add the dresses when you have the basics

Ok update: The two black work dresses from 15 (!!) years ago still fit three kids later Shock Shock Shock

So . I think I need tops. Had a look through the sites mentioned - anyone care to link to ones they think would go with the dresses? One is a square front neck with straps and one is a scooped neck sleeveless.

I'd go for a jacket to go with the dresses. Try H&m or a charity shop & you'll just need a few tops as well. The jacket will work with the dresses and the tops with trousers/skirts.

I agree, buy a jacket.

And well done on fitting into your dresses!

AskMeHow · 14/10/2019 08:42

Yes get yourself a couple of jackets. I buy all my work clothes from e5p (I can see you've already been recommended it!) But you do have to be quick off the mark for the best stuff. I would have a look every morning (new arrivals come in 8-9am) and see what's there.
