I noticed at my interview but put it down to nerves.

I've had my first week and the heat is truly unbearable. My colleagues were dressed for July and even they were complaining.

I'm such a jumper/scarf/boots kinda gal and I hate my arms.

What is the dress code?

dudsville · 29/09/2019 00:56

I would hate that! I work in a drafty old building. You must well have to do what the others do and dress for summer !

NHS hospital here - baltic all year round. I always wear sleeveless tops or dresses and then pile on cardigan and wool wrap coat for home in the winter. Even have to change my shoes as can't wear socks/tights as would roast. Government austerity anyone?

soulrider · 29/09/2019 07:25

Baltic means very cold. If people have been complaining about it being Baltic, they'll have cranked the temperature up!

Cotton shirt and trousers.
Layers for commute

On paper, it's fairly formal, but with the heat it's much more relaxed.

Lord I'm wishing for rattly windows. I used to wear two coats in one particularly memorable office.

I’ve had this - it was boiling in one office. I don’t ‘hate’ my arms but just don’t like showing much skin at work so I wear Joie or Rebecca Taylor silk shirts (from eBay, not new, they are £££) with the sleeves rolled up to the elbow.

Lightweight black ankle length trousers from Gerard Darel (they have a teensy bit of elastic at the back of the waistband, so comfy when anything else is cutting into you by 4pm).

And ballet flats. Done.

QueenOfWinterfell · 29/09/2019 15:01

Can you request a desk fan?

CountFosco · 29/09/2019 15:51

Another vote for silk shirts, look and feel professional but great for regulating your temperature.

YesQueen · 29/09/2019 15:59

Same. I have a USB desk fan which helps a little
