God this is selfish, but does anyone else here secretly long for the money to really go out spend properly on clothes again? And the time to browse would be nice too!

I would never say this to DH, as he feels bad that we're not rolling in money. He has a good job and earns a good wage, but we're now living in an expensive part of the country and I've stopped working to look after DD. I've told him many times that it's OK, as it's just the stage of life that we're in.
However I do secretely long for the times before we were married, when I could go into town just to browse for hours on end, and drink coffee with friends. And then I had the money to buy nice outfits and fun trendy stuff. I would have a selection of clothes for every occassion, rather than desperately trying to find something to fit that is vaguely appropriate. And I would feel stylish and sexy.
Selfish I know , it's not as though DH goes out and spends on himself either...

I ave never had enough money to buy myself lots of nice new clothes and would love to be able to. i hate most of myclothes that have. many are looking tatty cos i have had them so long!
jeans are ok. I got some 2ndhand on MN. Its tops that i want. And some nice boots. And bras that fit properly and aren't going grey.

DH and I often say if we had the money we would ditch our entire wardrobe and go and spend big time on new expensive clothes!!

They are really good value and trendy.

I bought a lovely tshirt the other day at Tesco for £8 and have had lots of compliments.

Not selfish at all! What gets me, is when I do have a bit of spare cash and I'm talking maybe £20 for 4 or 5 tops in Primark!, I go all out to spend it on myself and come back with something for DD - everytime!

loads of cheapy shops though so no need to spend a huge fortune. Primark, H & M, Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco Ok so not your very best in terms of quality but they are still OK. Go to town, drink coffee, try on loads of clothes, take your ideas to the cheapy shops and get the suff there.

Oh god yes, especially now cheap clothes look rubbish post pregnancy. Need good quality cloth and cut, trouble is that equals expensive in my experience. I am a normal size too (12/14).

Bought ds some plimsolls for £2 and shirts for £2.50.

I always see things I want when I haven't any money! I'd love to just have the money, so when I see something I can just get it!

No sains here. just tesco. woolworths has 3 for 2. Will probably go there. Good School shoes cost a bomb!

ikwym, i miss wearing high heels, white dresses, being able to eat a chocolate twist from costa by myself....

I did that once when i was 16, I can remember the day like it was yesterday I was in topshop i picked out an outfit and went to the checkout then i remembered i hadnt picked up any shoes so i asked my best mate to run to fetch me some shoes which she did, i didnt even bat an eyelid at how much it all came to these days if i ever buy shoes im very concious of the price and think about how comfy they are and how many things i can wear them to and how long they will last etc etc

I sometimes dream of the days in about 15yrs time when i will be able to buy matching underwear, shoes same colour as my bag and belt, clothes that cost more than £10 per item and will last me forever! At the moment I have 1 pair of jeans that are a bit baggy and 1 old pair that are a touch too tight, I went to primark before opur holiday the other week and spent £55 got some really good stuff that will at least see me through the summer! I console myself with the fact that at the moment even if we had the money we dont live in a house thats big enough for me to store loads of nice stuff lol one day when my girls are grown up and have left home i will have a dressing room (we all know thats just a dream and it will infact be saved for my grandchildren!!)

I'm toying with the idea of getting a facial from time to time. I spend very little on myself, always buy clothes in the sales, and keep them for as long as possible (realised yesterday that I was wearing a shirt that pre-dated children by a good few years!). Have only bought one piece of jewellery since dh and I have been together. The only cosmetics I buy are cleanser, moisturiser and perfume, so I'm hardly a big spender.

But my skin is showing my age, having children has done nothing for it whatsoever. On the one hand I feel it's perfectly reasonable to put ds2 in a creche for an hour and have a facial every few months, but OTOH I feel I can't justify it.

Tort....woolworths online have some good cheap uniform bits.

I used to love it when I first started work and me and my friends used to get the train up the West End on Saturday, hit Top Shop etc and come home again surrounded by bags of clothes and shoes.

Now it's a top for me in Asda if I'm lucky.

You are NOT alone! I love my life, my children, all that, but I would love a guilt-free day to spend it all on me me me.

I am torn between thinking that it's not really worth it anyway; I haven't lost the baby weight and we're thinking about trying again this winter (although there are many issues to be worked out first!). But then I think, I have to have clothes to wear everyday. At the moment I have Groundhog Day wardrobe. One pair of jeans that are worn all week then washed, no casual jumpers, no light waterproof, just a black fleece from MIL that makes me look frumpy. (Nice of her to buy us things though)
In fact, there's another grump! I wish that most of my clothes weren't bought by other people who don't know what fits/suits me. I had a vest bought for me for my birthday, which has tiny straps. I'm a 32H with naff maternity and BFing bras. I'm hoping that M and S will take it back. And I end up with all sorts of little bits and pieces, none of which go together....
