I accidentally got too fat for my lovely jeans [sad]

I bought a pair of jeans by a brand called Mud last winter. They are my most expensive pair of jeans. Not £££££, but definitely more than I would normally spend. Loved them, wore them loads and then gained weight, so they no longer fit round my fat tummy Sad and Blush.

Obviously, I should lose the weight and get back into them, which has been on my to do list, of course. But, if, hypothetically speaking, I... ahem... don't, do you think I can find a way to wear them? Could a tailor do anything with them?

How far out are you from fitting in them? Would it just be worth getting another pair in a bigger size while you lose the weight (or even if you don't - at least you still have your favourite jeans in the right size!)

CatrionaTheCatfish · 25/09/2019 19:24

I am probably not THAT far off tbh... I don't know if I should get another pair as they're so pricey! But maybe I should just admit defeat and give them to charity and buy some more.

I definitely cant wear them as they are though. They take serious effort to fasten and I then get a massive, sticky out tummy and muffin top Shock. I've gained about a stone and a half and probably about an inch and a half round the tummy Blush.

I very much doubt they can be taken out. I had the same issue with a beautiful dress, the seamstress said there simply wasn’t enough material in the seams, that’s how clothes are made nowadays. Decades ago they made clothes with more generous seams and so some letting out was possible. I then took the dress to a less scrupulous dressmaker/ alterer who added in a panel, but frankly that ruined it, it just threw off the shape and looked wrong. I should have cut my loses and sold it on eBay instead of having it altered.

SirVixofVixHall · 25/09/2019 19:35

Really unlikely to be any seam allowance. How expensive were they ?
As getting them altered decently would be expensive too. I would buy a pair one size up, and keep these for when you are slimmer.

OrangeLola · 25/09/2019 19:38

How about a button extender to tide you over until they fit again.

CatrionaTheCatfish · 25/09/2019 19:38

They are €119 on their website now and I'd have to pay postage to UK for a new pair...

Maybe I should look here instead.

I googled them, I really don’t think that you could get them altered and still keep the shape. Splash out on another pair. I did this with some Toast trousers I loved. I was putting on weight due to a thyroid problem so I ended up buying them in two sizes.

CatrionaTheCatfish · 25/09/2019 19:41

Thanks. You're probably right.

Wonder if there are similar brands in UK. I'll get googling.

It actually was handy having both sizes, as my weight fluctuates, and so I always had a pair that fitted.

XingMing · 25/09/2019 19:47

Just bite the bullet, and starve yourself back into them, unless you're PG of course.

Plainandsimple · 25/09/2019 19:49

If it’s mudjeans.eu then you can lease a pair for a monthly fee (genius idea!), so you could lease a pair a size up whilst you’re losing weight, then return them once yours fit again. Ta daa!

malificent7 · 25/09/2019 19:50

Sell on ebay then get the bigger size.

Teddybear45 · 25/09/2019 19:54

Get a maternity band and attach it to the jeans while you lose weight.

CatrionaTheCatfish · 25/09/2019 20:11

@plainandsimple

I couldn't get that to work, but maybe it's my phone/pilot error!

I just gave away all my bump bands! No more babies here!

I'll try them on again tonight and if I'm not too far off, I'll go on a diet tomorrow. Much as it pains me to admit I need to Sad.
