Can I wear the dress again

Dh's sibling is getting married soon. I need a dress to wear but can't afford one. I have a young baby, so the only dress I have that fits me is one I bought and wore for another of his siblings weddings during the summer. Can i wear the same dress again?

Usually I'd say yes, but I think if they are both his siblings, people (like his parents) might display both photos and it might look a bit weird. But it's up to you if that bothers you!

Any friends you could borrow a dress off, if you'd be happier in a different one?

thedevilinablackdress · 25/09/2019 13:12

Definitely. You will not look weird at all. If anyone notices they'll just think you like the dress.
Wearing a dress to several occasions should be normal!

Of course! Madness to buy another dress in these circs.

As for PP's point on photos... how many blokes will be in the same suits in each photo? I'm assuming a fair few of them!

smallgreyelephant · 25/09/2019 13:20

Definitely, If Meghan can, you can. I think we are on the verge of a sea-change in thinking about re-wearing clothes. It's now cool, to re-wear. A change in accessories, can totally change the look too.

Elllllle · 25/09/2019 13:29

I'm all for the rewear, however if the pattern and style is distinctive, then I personally would try to find something else especially with such a recent wedding. How soon is the next wedding? If its a least a month off, you may find you have changed shape again

LaDameAuxLicornes · 25/09/2019 17:03

Yes, definitely. Do you have some different accessories/jewellery and shoes that you already own? And maybe you could wear your hair differently.

We need to get away from this crazy mindset of only wearing things a handful of times, anyway. My friend's mother wore the same dress to both of her daughters' weddings, two weeks apart! No-one cared, nor would she have cared if they had.

Pinkyyy · 25/09/2019 17:05

What's the dress like? Is it possible to dress it up differently?

Sometimes with a change of hairstyle, bag, shoes etc, a dress can look totally different!

smallgreyelephant · 25/09/2019 17:39

Are you worried about being judged? Please don't. You are invited for who you are not what you wear. A dress that fits and looks good reflects better than a last minute panic purchase that you feel you can't afford. And who remembers what the guests wear?! You will be fine.

Thisisstrange1 · 25/09/2019 17:55

I don't think I am in any photos from the last wedding, I try to avoid them.

The dress is detailed. But last time worn with no jacket and nude shoes and bag. So was thinking of wearing a jacket with matching shoes and bag in a different colour. And I could go for an upstyle aswell.

I'll try post a picture of the dress, suggestions would be appreciated.

I changed my mind... that's gorgeous and I'd definitely wear it again! Love the sound of how you'll wear it, too.

I was picturing some kind of family-bridesmaid-type thing that might be quite obvious... but even then it should have been fine.

readingismycardio · 25/09/2019 18:13

The dress is absolutely beautiful! Wear it!

Thisisstrange1 · 25/09/2019 18:25

Thanks @AnchorDownDeepBreath and @readingismycardio

What colour jacket and shoes do you think?

OP posts:
Pinkyyy · 25/09/2019 18:27

Sounds great OP. A jacket and different colour accessories will make this into a totally different look, not that it even matters! I always think an updo looks nicer with a detailed dress.

readingismycardio · 25/09/2019 18:58

@Thisisstrange1 i'd go for metallic since it's already autumn, both gold & silver work nice

readingismycardio · 25/09/2019 18:58

Depending on the jewellery you normally wear

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/09/2019 19:12

Of course you can, I tend to spend lots on formal-wear and use the same things again and again, just style it differently.
