when I went on quiz thingy I had a great long list of what was not suitable - basically nothing. White was a no-no which was my first choice!

What you on for?

aloha · 10/08/2007 19:02

Look at Fern Britton pix to get an idea - lots of deep dark colours rather than black - often a loose cardigan or jacket over. But seriously, people will not expect the wife of a man needing an urgent heart transplant to look super-glam. Just brush your hair and put on some makeup. Lipstick, mascara and eyeliner and some bronzer/blusher. Get a friend to do it if your hands are shaking! No jewellery. It's really just for your benefit, so you like what you see later. The really important thing is the story and the message.

bundle · 10/08/2007 19:04

don't forget to paint your toenails if you can see them
definitely not: black or white or tiny checks (strobe alert). no dangly earrings and keep makeup simple - just a bit of mascara, powder (they'll do that) and lippy.
good luck!xxx

Evans were naff last weekend and seem to have got a bit pricey. Try Asda or Tesco as they do great v neck t shirt tops for about £5 - £10. Or if you have one a Sainsburys with a clothes dept?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 10/08/2007 19:04

i know the message is important,. but want to look ok-ish and not my usual bedraggled state. not going for ultra-glam at all (totally not me), i just need to find a top really.

not white
not stripes or huge patterns
floaty?
shirt?

dorothy perkins do some nice smart / t-shirty type things. You are dark aren't you so pale blue would be nice. Make sure it is not an 'I work in a shop' type outfit.

Good luck- have thought about you today.

Hope I get to see you.

Nbg · 10/08/2007 19:04

Plain works much better on TV. If you wear something v patterned or bright, people sit there thinkign abuot your clothes and not listening!

Dotty p site has loads of good stuff on it, much more than I ever see in their shops .

Nbg · 10/08/2007 19:08

Dont listen to these muppets going on about plain.

paulaplumpbottom · 10/08/2007 19:09

Have a hairdresser call by the house. A blouse and jeans will be lovely. Maybe a cardigan as well? Try to think well groomed not glamorous

bundle · 10/08/2007 19:10

plain is good like the tunic thing (if you wear something like jersey make sure underwear is good ))

Nbg · 10/08/2007 19:11

Theres loads of them tunics M if you have a look.

But you can guarentee they never have what you want instore!

podglet · 10/08/2007 19:12

hi, I know Peter is in Harefield, if you can get to Uxbridge they have a nice big shopping centre called the Chimes with lots of shops with sales in. Dotty P has some really nice stuff at the moment.

I look like a perpetual student, no matter how hard I try so I can't offer any sensible advice I'm afraid.

Have been lurking on the other threads. I am so sorry to hear about the stand down last night. Fingers crossed for another call very soon.

We get Anglia - will be looking out for you on Monday

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 10/08/2007 19:16

iahve this

GreatGooglyMoogly · 10/08/2007 19:17

blue shirt

red shirt

purple striped shirt

short-sleeved one

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 10/08/2007 19:17

Now you see to me that would be fine, but no doubt Cod or someone else from the fashion police will come along and berate me.

paulaplumpbottom · 10/08/2007 19:19

If you are going to wear a t-shirt you really should wear a cardigan over it, Not sure about the color TBH

newlifenewname · 10/08/2007 19:20

Short sleeves might cut your arms off and will be more casual smart than smart casual perhaps

Beetroot · 10/08/2007 19:20

I still think white shirt with plain scarf woudl work -
