What brands of sunglasses are best quality?

A few years ago I discovered that expensive sunglasses seem to be so much better-the lenses are less harsh & they give a nicer filter.

Anyone have any preferred brands?

I love Chloe mostly. Only buy them if they are in good condition from eBay. Would be glad to discover any less expensive brands that I like!

Mykita. But you'll find they're more expensive than Chloe as they're handmade in Berlin and have top of the range lenses. Keep away from them as they will ruin you for cheaper sunglasses. Wink

Maui Jim - brilliant lenses and fantastic customer service, the glass lenses are light and comfortable to wear and the clarity is incredible.

Good lord, don't give me more expensive brands! I'm about to google these but I'm quite worried. Hoping all the frames are ugly!

Another vote for Maui Jim, not the most fashionable but the lenses are the best.

Seashell80 · 17/09/2019 20:54

Maui Jim are fantastic, quality is second to none!

ForestDad · 17/09/2019 20:55

Serengeti

EntirelyAnonymised · 17/09/2019 20:57

Most of the fashion brands are all made by the same lab. www.luxottica.com/en/eyewear-brands

Another vote for Maui Jim! I’m fairly heavy handed with my glasses and these have stood the test of time.

My ray bans have been good too

😎

Serengeti are fabulous - I would not buy a pair of "designer" sunglasses - waste of money - imo.

timshelthechoice · 17/09/2019 21:00

My Ray Ban Jackie O style ones. Had them for over 20 years and they are still fab.

Isthebigwomanhere · 17/09/2019 21:01

I bought some fendi sunglasses at Manchester airport 10!years ago.
They are still as good as new

In 1999, Bausch & Lomb sold the brand to the Italian eyewear conglomerate, Luxottica Group, for a reported US $640 million. And there the fantastic ended!

littlemissy12345 · 17/09/2019 22:11

Another vote for Maui Jim's. My lenses give everything a lovely glow!

My friend has a pair of Serengeti sunglasses. They are gorgeous! I am planning to steal them.

For me, as long as the lenses are polarised. I have two Boots pairs and some Ray Bans (all polarised) and there's not much between them lense-wise.

bert3400 · 17/09/2019 22:43

My Raybans have lasted 2 years of being sat on, thrown around my bag and general dropping alot !! Still going strong

BillywilliamV · 17/09/2019 22:44

I have a pair of Boots sunglasses for ever, DH is a Raybans man

ToBeShared · 17/09/2019 23:34

Can I just give more love to Maui Jim - I sent back my 10 year old glasses for new lenses - they charged me for the lenses but replaced the whole frame - they are amazing!

MeganTheVegan · 17/09/2019 23:39

I hate to say this, but stay away from Victoria Beckham eyewear. I have bought two pairs, the first pair fell apart within a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, I couldn't return them as I'd bought them on an overseas trip and the Head Office in London were not helpful. The second pair were very cheap and plasticy and didn't look good after a few wears.

I love her designs though, so feel bad saying this.

buckeejit · 18/09/2019 09:01

I wondered about VB - tbh I don't think Chloe sunglasses have a great build quality but they often have frames I like. I've had 2 pairs that have broken prematurely

A few years ago I only had one pair of ok sunglasses & it was awful so I'm always on the lookout for decent ones. Probably have about 8 pairs now.

I live in the ME so wear sunglasses 365 days of the year and always wear D&G sunglasses, main reason just being that the frames seem to suit me.

DH always wear Raybans (polarized) as he does a lot of driving and thinks they are the best.

championquartz · 18/09/2019 09:43

I agree with the Serengeti suggestion. Their lenses are fab. They're so restful on the eyes. Maui Jims are next. I've never found any designer glasses lenses to be anywhere near as good.

My car was stolen one night a couple of years ago. We did get the car back but the only thing the robbers took were my deeply unfasionable serengeti sunglasses! That's how good they are. Proof, if proof was neededGrin

Mumthedogsbeensick · 18/09/2019 09:44

I have a pair of Guess sunglasses and I think they're lovely but I've had some great ones from Boots in the past too

Birdie5577 · 18/09/2019 09:54

Got some polarised Prada ones for my birthday this year...they are fantastic.

Had Versace ones before, not as good as Prada but they did last for 9 years so definitely got my money worth

EmmaStone · 18/09/2019 14:33

Been delighted with my RayBans - always look as good as new.

However, in terms of frame shape, I have fallen in love with Ilesteva - had never heard of them and happened to buy a pair in a discount mall in the US, and adore them. Having looked on their website, I love almost all of their frames.

@championquartz you've become the second person on here to [ever] agree with me about anything!
