If you do your own nails and they last a good long while without chipping, what’s your regime?

I can make my nails last about five days maximum before they start to chip. Ideally I’d love them to last a week or longer.

I’m currently using an Avon varnish with a glitter on top and then a top coat. I like the look of it. I just want it to last longer 😬😬

Wash hands and dry thoroughly. File and shape nails before washing.

Mavala barrier base coat. Careful to wipe the edge after each nail.

Let completely dry.

One thin coat of Mavala in choice of colour. Again, wipe the edge after each nail.

Let completely dry.

Apply another thin coat of Mavala colour if needed. Wipe edge.

Let completely dry.

Seche vite tip coat. Wipe edge.

I wipe the edge of my nails on a folded up tissue, just run the nail over it before the coating has dried.

Makes a huge difference in preventing chipping.

I also gently file once a day.

Oh that’s interesting! Why does wiping the side of the nail make such a difference? Is it to prevent lift?

I bought a UV lamp and do my own nails with gel varnish now - much quicker, no need to wait for drying time and they last a lot longer without chipping.

Wipe the tip not the side!

It prevents chipping. Run your thumb over the tip/edge of your nail to see what I mean.

I second home gels. But to avoid ruining your nails by using acetone to remove, use Sensationail peel off base coat. Absolute game changer.

I bought a gel kit on eBay or amazon for about £20.

I'm impressed you get to 5days. Two if I'm lucky

Same as Soola except I use these products. I re-do on Sundays usually and I'm a secretary. If it does chip (rare), the neutral colour means it doesn't really show. Also ALWAYS use rubber gloves for washing up/cleaning.

File and buff nails (mine look better short). Soak nails in soapy water and trim / push back cuticles if needed.

Base coat of OPI Nail Envy (original).

Two coats of Essie Gel colour (Rock the Runway, normally)

Two top coats of Essie Gel top coat.

Pic because I've just finished doing them Smile
