Is it worth trying to resurrect my high waisted boot legs or just put them back in the drawer?

I’ve been having a sort out. I know high waisted is back and the eighties jeans is being embraced by the young’uns. I still fit my 20 year old jeans but can I update them?

My friend wears a loose fit wide legged jean with the bottoms trimmed off and it looks great. I’m
wondering if I could do similar or just stick them back in the drawer for another 20 years?

hmm, depends how good your sewing skills/machine is...

easiest thing to do would be to cut the bottom part off around mid-calf so they were more like cullottes, and fray the edges, wear with big slouchy jumpers and clumpy boots with socks kinda urban punk styley….

you could unpick the bottoms, make them narrower, and then fold the edges over into turn ups, more like... a 1950's teddy boy jean, and cover the external seam with a strip of ribbon in a contrasting colour to hide any messiness...

or... you could take out the inner seams from the knee downwards, cut out a bit, and re-sew them into straight leg jeans... it's more of a faff, but not difficult,

or... you could tie dye bleach them with domestos and list them on etsy as 'reworked vintage'.. (grin)

plenty of options there!

Thank you erm. I am a soft furnisher but not a dressmaker annoyingly. So I’m certainly good with a machine but not necessarily at alterations.

I found a few photos I liked. One is cropped and the other leaving them as bootleg but styling them differently.

I think they look perfect as they are!!

EarringsandLipstick · 12/09/2019 22:44

No OP. they look totally unfashionable now, no amount of cropping will fix it.

Buy new, keep these for memories & be delighted they still fit 😊

peachgreen · 13/09/2019 08:24

Afraid not - they're too baggy around the thighs and knees to work with today's styles. Although honestly, if I could still fit into my jeans from 20 years ago I'd probably parade around naked everywhere. Grin

I'd keep them as my "can't be arsed" jeans. They look fine but yes they are dated. I used to to live in bootcut jeans!

thedevilinablackdress · 13/09/2019 09:22

Do something with them so you'll wear them. Or donate them. No point in having clothes hiding away unworn.

sheshootssheimplores · 13/09/2019 12:55

I think it’s the high waisted aspect of them that made me think I could resurrect them. I agree though they do look d fashioned. The quality though!!!!! Proper thick denim with no elastic weakening them.

*old fashioned

From the knee up they’re great, it’s the boot leg from the knee down which is unflattering.

MoltonSilver · 13/09/2019 16:17

If you still fit into your jeans from 20 years ago you should wear them with pride!

managedmis · 13/09/2019 17:17

You have amazing legs, you'd look good in any jeans

I'd do erm's suggestion above and cut them off into flares

EdWinchester · 13/09/2019 17:19

They are a dated colour and cut, keep them for decorating.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 13/09/2019 17:24

I’ve started wearing my good fit boot cut jeans again. They suit my body shape, and are comfortable. Sod it, I’m starting a retro trend :D

Teddybear45 · 13/09/2019 17:26

The fit looks a bit grannyish now. If you want to keep them for slouching around then fine but I wouldn’t waste time or money trying to fix the fit.

Leflic · 13/09/2019 17:38

What’s in now then? I thought they were back although I see lots of jeans with high frayed bottoms.

moonpiggle · 13/09/2019 18:00

I think they would look better with flats and a blazer as they look too short in the leg.

sheshootssheimplores · 13/09/2019 19:29

I’m wearing them with heels moonpiggle

I have put them back in the drawer for the moment. I’m still convinced bootleg will come back so maybe I’ll wait it out Grin

EL8888 · 13/09/2019 19:33

I am waiting for boot leg / flares to come back in. I also have an excellent quality pair on standby, thick but well cut. Can’t be that far away surely?!

OneKeyAtATime · 13/09/2019 19:55

Why do you need to wait for fashion trends? If you like it, wear it!

AnnaNimmity · 13/09/2019 20:00

sorry OP!

Resign them to the charity box.

ChickenyChick · 13/09/2019 21:00

I used yo dress like that 20yrs ago

The mid heeled ankle boots under boot cuts Smile

It looks good on you though.

therearenogoodusernamesleft · 13/09/2019 21:27
