Comfy, stylish work shoes

I’m returning to work soon and need shoes!

I’ll be wearing shift dresses and pencil skirts, sometimes smart trousers.

I need shoes that are smart enough to go with these outfits but comfortable enough to walk from the station, run to catch a train, etc.

My back up plan is to wear trainers and change at work, but I would prefer to buy a practical yet smart/stylish pair (if that exists!)

I’ve spent the last few months in a pair of Toms... that’s the level of comfort I am after!

I am 40+ returning to work in the city, so don’t care about glamour, but don’t want to look like an old frump!

I think it's tricky to wear flat shoes with some things and not look frumpy. I either wear heels at work, or try to wear things that look good with flat shoes. On me, this isn't knee length or midi dresses. I also wear high heels with jeans (because I don't feel dressed up enough at work in jeans otherwise).

That said I have just bought some Grensons which are bloody lovely, and also occasionally wear trainers, and flat shoes can look fab and smart with the right outfit.

The trainer/pencil skirt look is ok - but only while commuting imo!
