Where can I buy a cotton slip/petticoat/dress?

So I know I may be about to be laughed off the S&B board, but...

I want to buy a black cotton slip dress (ideally a short one to wear under short dresses) but everything I'm finding is nylon/polyester/silk.

Can anyone make any suggestions?

M&S would be worth looking at

Sunspel will do pure cotton slips.

Thanks for these responses.

M&S don't do cotton slips unfortunately.

I've just been emailing Suzanne Charles - I've had one from them previously but they don't quite have the neckline I'm after, but still probably the best bet.

Thanks for the Sunspel suggestion - I've never heard of them. Their stuff looks good but at the moment I can't justify £40 for a slip. I've bookmarked the site for later though!

Sunspel is, or used to be, the white label underwear supplier for a few places -- Paul Smith, Harrods, Margaret Howell etc. Whatever I buy from there is always just exactly right. But it is a bit more expensive, I agree!

Though black looks out of stock

Oh it's too long Grin

Does it need to be cotton? Usually cotton underdresses/underskirts cling like mad to whatever is being worn over it (or under it). Cotton is a stiff fabric, even fine lawn cotton, compared to nylon/silk/satin poly.

If it's because you want only natural fabrics, personally I'd look for a real silk slip in place of a cotton slip.

Thanks for more suggestions...

I'm can't wear polyester or nylon as I have eczema that is sensitive to these. I'm not sure where I stand with silk but I'll see if I can try one on at some point and see.

I've ordered a cotton one from Suzanne Charles. I love that they do made to measure so I'm getting a slip made to custom length/bust/waist/hips measurements.
