Are there beauty products I should be buying in Thailand?

I'm going to Phuket on holiday soon and am wondering if there are any local products I should be picking up? I imagine I'll be too tall and western-proportioned for clothes, but please let me know if you have tips about amazing makeup or skincare options!

If you use retin-a you can get the proper stuff from pharmacies cheap. I buy in bulk when I go. It's about £8 a tube. I've got 0.25 and 0.5% ones.

Look out for skincare/fragrance by Harrn/Vuudh (Vuudh are owned by Harrn, both ranges are fabulous!). I LOVE the Vuudh Bangkok fragrance, it's gorgeous (I still have a small stash from when I lived in Asia and just went into my bedroom to have a spray and a trip down memory lane). There's a Vuudh at Central Festival 2nd Floor in Phuket.

Also have a look at Thann. Great skincare, haircare and fragrance. They're more well known internationally but also top quality. There's a Thann on Taiweewong Road in Phuket.

Sadly neither Thann nor Harrn/Vuudh have stores in the UK. So buy plenty as I promise you that you'll regret it if you don't! Their products are beautifully presented so also make lovely gifts.

Siam Botanical do really nice essential oils, Panpuri is great too and The Grass.
I get Retin A from Boots.

Owlish · 07/09/2019 14:51

Can you check if they're cruelty free?

ZaraW · 07/09/2019 14:55

Siam Botanicals are

I think the others I mentioned are apart from Retin A

I would check out the hotel's shops as they are usually stocked with products from the fantastic spas they have. Products and body lotions, scrubs etc. with Frangipani are lovely.

If you are in Phuket also look our for Jim Thomson silk products in a JT shop or outlet. I also bought loads of oil burners and essential oils from Phuket. Have a great time. Its a great place.

What area/ resort are you staying in?

Just a word of warning - be careful when buying any lotions/make up/sunscreen that it does not contain whitener. Even brands you recognise from home e.g. garnier, vaseline etc sell products here that are whitening and it is not always obvious from the label. Anything that says 'brightening' or bright/light/white should be avoided!!

Enjoy your trip!

Or if it has liquorice in the ingredients.

Thank you all for the excellent suggestions! I am busily taking notes.

@AutumnFabreeze I'll be staying at Naka Island Resort, it's a ten minute speedboat ride from Phuket.
