I'm a bit stuck with what sort of shoe and sock/tights (if any). I think it looks best with an interesting flat and bare legs, but I'd freeze. I don't think it looks great with a boot, unless maybe an ankle boot?

I'm sure I'm overthinking this.

This makes me want to improve my sock choices. It also makes me want to wear socks and sandals.

Ok I laughed when I saw your shoe choice.... if trainers are too Notting Hill those shoes are very Chelsea.

A fine line. Wink

It also makes me want to wear socks and sandals.

Really? Confused

I wear either trainers with snazzy socks - I know, but I hate trainer socks! OR I wear Grenson Nannette hiking boots. Like the idea of fishnet socks though - off to google.

If you want to wear a wide-cut leg in the winter, it's better to go for a heavier fabric like cotton-twill, denim or wool. The hem should fall no higher than the ankle or it will look too summery. Style it with trainers or boots - whatever shoe you'd usually wear in winter.

The ones you've linked look too lightweight in fabric for cold weather, plus the colour is also off-putting for winter.

For example, these trousers from Other Stories worn with ankle boots - they're a nice heavy cotton-twill and they're perfect for winter. (I have them myself).
