shorts crisis! PLease help!

I have always loved shorts and been a bit tomboyish. I am trying to look a little better. I am currently wearing a pair of mens'shorts that i bought in M & S in Rhyll in 1995!OMG! I just caught sight of my reflection in the window and they look awful, lots of crotch hanging out front and just so unflattering i could cry to think i never noticed before [shock. Where can i buy on line something that isn't too 'fashionable and impractical yet still looks nice, fits well and i can wear everyday at home/ walking playing with the kids etc?

Knww length denim shorts are always a good option as they can be worn with most things. You can wear them with flipflops or heels. Short one are also cute in black/beige or choclate brown- they look better with a turn up on them.
I love wearing my shorts and wear them all the time

Thanks girls. My legs are quite good, a little shorter than i would like in an ideal world but ok. The Next link was fab, the linen mix ones at £10 perfect but of course all sold out in every colour!!
THe surf shorts sound fab and comfy and just what i've always gone for but... i'm going to be 40 in September (a very young 40, but 40 nonetheless!) and i do need to get a bit more girly i think. Any other ideas?

wear a skirt instead - doesn't need to be full or frilly
Distressingly I can't find a pic of a non-maternity one offhand, but this summer I've been living in cotton twill skirts thus because they're the mat version of my normal summer skirts.
Just a bit more grown-up than shorts.
