If you are an ‘apple’, do you always wear skinny jeans?

I’m a classic apple shape, I have a rounded full tummy and slim arms with slim legs, my legs look like they shouldn’t really belong to my torso, iukwim!

I live in stretchy skinnies or jeggings. A recent photo made me feel ugh about myself, particularly what I was wearing, a loose fitting tie up t-shirt (which actually blew my tummy out making it look bigger) and my trusted skinnies. I know i’ll never look amazing and I know i’ll never ever ever look even good in a photo as I’m the most unphotogenic person on the planet. So I thought maybe a looser fit of jeans may actually balance me out a bit.

I’ve been out today and got a pair of ‘skinny’ jeans from new look, yet they aren’t skinny skinny, they look a bit looser on me than what I am use to & I got a pair of relaxed skinnies from next which I thought looked ok. So I’m going to give them a proper try on later & see what they are like. Are they’re any other styles I should try? I did try some others on in new look but the high rise ones were a bit tight around the tummy & if I had gone a bigger size they would look daft on my legs!

Same here, I sympathise. Have enjoyed shorter tea style dress this summer and like phase eight Becca dresses and tops

I am an apple too but never wore skinnies, gives me the Tazmanian Devil look. I have always worn kick flare or bootcut evened out my shape and definitely looks better

I'm Apple shaped (size18) and always wore skinny jeans until I saw a photo of myself and I literally looked like a egg on legs 😀

I now wear wide leg or harem pants.

Also apple - was size 20, now size 16. I prefer straight leg jeans, with a fair amount of stretch around the waist. To me, anything wide legged makes me look much wider, unless its very well cut, as it tends to hang down from my (circular) waist.

I always used to be a hourglass but am now an apple - thanks, menopause - my preferred look is skinny rolled trousers with a dress.

I wear skinny's but not skin tight skinny's, I tend to prefer them rolled up or cropped and wear longer length tops that drape and hang off my boobs and skin the belly, I'm a 16/18 top and 14 bottom, but buy skinny's in a 16 and wear a belt otherwise they give me a delightful muffin top even though the 14 aren't that tight around my waist.

I am an apple and own one pair of skinnies which I wear very occasionally if I feel then need to look like I am in some way stylish. The rest of the time I stick to bootcuts, and according to MN probably look old fashioned, unstylish and frumpy, but they look better on me than skinnies (unless I wear a perfect top with the skinnies), and like a PP said they even out my shape.

Yes, I'm an apple shape and wear skinnies. I'm a size 16 and get long length so I can wear with a turn up. In cooler weather I wear a long vest with sweat short on top or fitter heavy cotton shirts, when it's warm long tops which skim my middle.

Thanks for the replies, lots of ideas! I do wish I could wear I dress, I can’t remember when I last wore one (probably when I was about 10) I just feel like they look ‘wrong’ on me.

I’m usually a size 12 from most shops but sizing can differ depending on material & fit. There was a pair of jeans that I really liked from New Look today, the fit on the legs were just what I wanted but they were a bit tight around the waist, they were a 12, the 14 was a ok around the waist but not right on the leg & they were hi waisted anyway so felt uncomfortable. The ones I ended up getting are a 12 and fit comfortably around the waist.

Yes I loved bootcut jeans, my dd can’t believe I use to wear them, ‘ankle wafters’ as she calls them! I think they would feel strange wearing them again after so many years of wearing skinnies!

Most of my tops are a 12, if it’s a t-shirt type top I usually go for a 14.

I usually wear slim leg, straight, or relaxed. Slim leg with a turn-up are my favourites at this time of year. I think, apart from the fact that skinnies don't suit a lot of people, that they've started to look a bit dated, especially with ballet flats.

AJPTaylor · 31/08/2019 07:02

I wear slim fit. I look like a parsnip in skinny fit
I chucked out about 8 pairs of bootcut jeans last week so they will be back in fashion within months.
