Dress is too short, can I wear it with leggings?

I bought a Mark's and Spencer's dress and tried it on in the shop and it fitted perfectly so I took it home and washed it. I put it on with tights and it's a bit too short really.

I'm an apple shape and have recently lost weight, but I don't want to wear it as it feels wrong. Can I wear it with leggings or is that a no no these days? I'm 49 and not really bothered about looking up to date, but I don't want to look silly.

I've got that dress and I wear it with leggings! After 3 babies, my legs are not fit to be seen by other humans (varicose veins, etc)

I’m 47 and off to buy it! It’s gorgeous. I will wear it with black tights & boots.

I wear dresses with leggings OP, or with thick tights. It's a really nice dress by the way!

Petite is 5ft 3'' and under, so if you're 5ft4'' it shouldn't be that sort.

Black opaque tights, black ankle boots and a biker jacket would be lovely. I might buy one ...

Dresses with leggings is never a good look

Nacreous · 21/08/2019 08:55

I think it would be fine with leggings. I wear dresses with leggings all the time, but I hate tights!

I wear cycle shorts (just short leggings really) with dresses that are a tad too short... that way still feel like i'm wearing a dress/tunic top with legs out, but can't see bum!

Dresses don't look good with leggings. Yes, lots of people wear them together, but that doesn't mean it works. It just looks like you've bought a nice dress and ruined it by sticking leggings underneath for practicalities' sake.

That dress wants to be worn with bare legs and flat sandals in summer, or with thick black opaques and chunky boots in winter. Ordinarily pale dresses wouldn't go with black tights, but that dress would work as it has the dark print in it.

It will be fine with black opaque tights and knee high or ankle boots. If you really want to wear leggings with it make sure they are very black and very close fitting and pair with knee high boots.

I'd also wear it with black opaques and tan boots, but lots of people on here will tell you that's an aberration.

NoBaggyPants · 21/08/2019 10:19

Tights will be fine with it. It's a lovely dress.

Not jeans. Definitely not jeans!

Vesperia · 21/08/2019 10:22

i'd take it back

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2019 12:41

Definitely not jeans!

I'm going to buy some thick opaque dark tights and I have some tan ankle boots. That might work. I'll also try ironing it.

It'll look great with thick tights! I don't think leggings would quite work with the fabric.
