Random chin hairs

Please tell me I'm not the only one? I'm only 30 but every few months I will randomly develop a dark single hair on my chin. Obviously I instantly pluck the damn thing out but am I alone in this? I didn't think this was a thing at my age?! Never had it until I hit 30!

It's a turning 30 thing!

Everyone I know says it happened at that time!

Face all nice and smooth. Wake up following morning with an inch long whisker!

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 18/08/2019 11:03

I have a few randomly placed hairs since turning 30.

In places they shouldn't be... and they really do sprout overnight.

Lindor2828 · 18/08/2019 14:14

This has made me feel so much better! So glad I'm not the only one, this definitely isn't talked about in our office!

My fear to to be in a coma for months and wake up with the full Grizzly Adams. I get black hairs randomly sprouting from: forehead, cheek, area between chin and lip, jaw line. Magnetic mirror, well lit window and industrial strength tweezers are my friend. Shit, dim lighting (hotel rooms) are my enemy. This year I packed my own sunction magnetic mirror to use on the balcony as those ninja sprouters are invisible in some light! I have this till I die I guess.

Dermaplaning is the best

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 18/08/2019 14:53

Yup, I've had one that grows out of a mole under my chin since I was about 20, but since passing 35, there are several more. They all grow from a relatively small patch of my chin on my left hand side - never anywhere else. I have no idea why. Now I'm perimenopausal, I am often in a situation where I have both whiskers AND acne, which I am sure is very confusing for anyone trying to guess my age.

matahairyy · 18/08/2019 14:57

I’d get those layered off

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 18/08/2019 15:11

matahairyy what, the hairs or the acne??? I definitely don't want to do anything drastic to the mole one, as I've always felt a bit funny about doing anything that might break its surface. I don't even really like to pluck it, but I like having an enormous wiry bristle growing out of it even less.

matahairyy · 18/08/2019 15:17

I’d have the mole removed. Or the hairs on the chin

grownup2 · 18/08/2019 15:18

Reading this made me grab my spring coil hair removal thingy from my desk drawer and do a little maintenance while I read.

Easy and cheap!

Solewindow · 18/08/2019 15:19

but then she had these bright white whiskers which must have been about 2 inches long hanging in spirals from her chin

I can see how this happens, i can spend ages plucking, be sure I've got them all then in the mirror at work that's next to a big south facing mirror I'll spot a big long black fecker on my chin, wtf?? Hmm

numberonecook · 18/08/2019 15:47

Oh the first fucker appeared when I was 30! Thought not too bad il keep plucking it. Now 35 and I have an army of them! They are also down my neck and on my top lip too. Waxing only keeps them at bay for a few days as does threading. Can’t believe I’m turning into a stereotypical hag/witch woman. Sorry no tips I’m afraid lol

BobbinThreadbare123 · 18/08/2019 20:58

Yep, I've had these spiky fuckers for years. Ever increasing sideburns and moustache... Twinkle razors and a Phillips Lumea are my friends! Problem solved, mostly.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2019 21:09

I have one of those Tweezerman magnifying mirrors , it is so cruel but not as bad as catching sight of my chin in the car mirror , when the light coming through is just perfect to illuminate ....and there's nothing I can do about it .

soupmaker · 18/08/2019 21:24

@70isaLimitNotaTarget This is why I keep tweezers in the car. I'm nearly 50 and have loads on my jawline, under my chin and the odd few on my cheeks. Hate the buggers. I have a lot of peach fuzz which I can live with, but the black spiky hairs are awful. I'm thinking of investing in a Lumea.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2019 21:33

I did think about keeping a pair in the glovebox , I usually just sit their touching the bristly spikey bit till I get home Blush

I found one today , I thought it was one of my cat's hairs (though a bit short for them) ......it was attached !

Supersimpkin · 18/08/2019 22:20

I loathe the sore fingertips you get from surreptitious tugging. My thumb throbs.

But the triumph of getting one out and seeing the 1/4 inch of bristle that was lurking under the skin...

banivani · 19/08/2019 09:33

Tweezers at home, in my bag, and on my desk at work.

Obsessed.

ImpracticalCape · 19/08/2019 09:44

I've got three delightful types:
The one that grows on my chin: bright white and like a piece of plastic. Takes a while to reappear
The ones that grow on specific locations on my neck: black, shiny and stubbly. Regrows in a week or so
The totally random neck ones: fine, blonde and extraordinary in their length. Unlocatable other than when you see a shiny glint in a mirror or when you brush away some hair only to find its attached. These things are INCHES long! Appear ever 6 weeks or so so I've got a nice cycle of plucking going on!

I found the first one in a bar at 25 while I was perusing the drinks menu. Hand on neck... wtf is that?!

CrowleysBentley · 19/08/2019 11:58

I have about 10 that randomly pop up around my chin now, at 43. I do a daily inspection with a light up magnifying mirror and tweezers, and I have a pair of pointy ended tweezers for if i manage to catch one while it's very short. The fuckers are getting darker though, and I am very pale so i am really paranoid about them.

Worse still, I found a weird mutant one of the fine peach fuzz hairs, growing about 2 inches out of the middle of my forehead the other day! Horrifying.

Anois · 19/08/2019 12:20

I'm so paranoid and because no one talks about it you feel so alone in your hairiness. Started in my mid 20s and really picked up pace since turning 40.

Loads of peach fuzz which I can just about live with, mixture of white and black on upper lip. I get that waxed and then check for stubbly ones that spring up in between appointments and pluck them.

My chin, lower cheeks and jawline are threatening to turn me into a yeti. GrinBlush That's a daily maintenance job.

I look at non hairy women with envy.

professionalnomad · 19/08/2019 14:44

Since I turned 33 my chin has started spouting thick black hairs that seem to increase exponentially with every year.

If I didn't ppluch everyday I would legitimately have a beard.

I think I'm going to invest in laser this year

LizzieSiddal · 19/08/2019 15:04

Same here, you NEED to have a pair of tweezers in every possible area- bathroom, dressing table, purse, car, desk draw etc etc because the little fuckers seem to just appear from nowhere.

Grambler · 19/08/2019 15:18

I've just come back from two weeks away. I was prepared - I bleached my beard before I went and I took a magnifying mirror and a LED torch, used it twice a day to pluck my chin and top lip.

I came back to my LED lamp and better magnifying mirror and MY GOD my eyebrows. Somehow I'd got so fixated on my chin and moustache I'd forgotten. And my neck had bizarrely not taken the bleach and I had brown fuzz all over my double chin.

  1. What a time to be alive.
Anois · 19/08/2019 21:55

Do any of you have stubble as they grow back?

I'm with you Grambler a great time to be alive! Blush
