Anyone help a clueless 40 something find a wedding guest outfit please?

I'm going to a city wedding that will be full of media types. As I am a decade older than DH, the guests will include many of his carefree, 30 year old pals and I don't want to look, or feel like, a 40 something country bumpkin mother. I know that I feel good when I have the right clothes on, but have no idea what's right. I am a size 10, happy to get legs out, can't have a low neckline (or even a 'V'.....i have a bony area where my cleavage should be....but I like my collar bone area). I don't want floral. I would aim for quietly cool/borderline edgy but not fashionable Grin if that makes any sense. Wedding is all in one venue in London in September. Don't have a huge budget. Live 30 mins from shopping hell heaven. Thank you

You could wear a bin bag and look good. Grin

Yes, with a figure like that, you'd look good in anything OP Grin.

What's your budget?

ecofreckle · 15/08/2019 23:40

Well that's sweet to say but one always wants what one can't have.....I'd love boobs and more booty and I often feel like a bag if bones. 60 to 80 pounds probably.

As small budget, start from shoes you've already got and work backwards.

There a high necked mini dresses EVERYWHERE atm and they look so great on the right figure

swissmilk · 16/08/2019 12:11

'Cool' is usually expensive, I don't think your budget is enough for that unless you can risk ebay.

Have you looked at 'outlet'?

I think you could wear anything and look good so don't worry about it too much

Hi OP, could you borrow a really great designer dress from one of those occasion dress shops? I think something by Vivienne Westwood or Victoria Beckham or someone you like? A poster here mentioned she was planning on doing that from now on as she kept buying dresses she only wore once.

As you have such a great future you should be able to get the right dress in your size in one of these shops (or maybe they are online in the UK?)

As another poster said, if you want to look edgy in a media environment you need a big budget so I think rental is your friend - also where would you ever wear it again?

Figure not future.
