Superdry - yay or nay for 50+?

Looking for a trench earlier this year and found one I liked but couldnt really justify the £100 cost. Have started looking again and previous favourite is still on sale - at half previous price! All happy and about to buy and mentioned to friend who was very sniffy as its Superdry and I'm 51 and work in a corporate environment!? Said 'friend' has form for mean comments and we usually ignore but its put a doubt in now. Trench is classic looking, only brand logo is a small metal tag on one sleeve which looks like I could unpick off if necessary. I'm a bit oblivious to this sort of thing so I'd welcome thoughts on is the brand really the domain of teens or particular group?

No, the brand is for anyone. And that person is showing some pretty horrible and very limiting ageist stereotypes.

The only question which matters is whether you think you look good in an item. Not your age

MoltonSilver · 12/08/2019 10:36

My 20 year old says he's too old for Superdry Hmm.
Personally, I think that's ridiculous. I'd make a decision on an item by item basis. If the coat looks well on you and is well priced, buy it. The quality at Superdry is generally pretty good.

matahairyy · 12/08/2019 10:36

Jesus no no no no

And no to all the dads wearing it. Nooo

Benjispruce · 12/08/2019 10:37

No , you go for it. A trench is a trench. I’m late 40s and love fashion.

Benjispruce · 12/08/2019 10:38

Yay I mean!

Mrstwiddle · 12/08/2019 10:40

I do associate it with younger people, but if it’s not obviously Superdry I wouldn’t worry about it

Ninkaninus · 12/08/2019 10:41

Go for it. But make sure to size up at least one size, possibly two of you are very busty and/or want to wear chunky jumpers underneath it - Superdry sizing comes up very small.

TokyoSushi · 12/08/2019 10:43

I got a beautiful dress from there recently (I'm 40) apart from a tiny little label you'd ever know. As long as the trench isn't emblazoned with a massive Superdry logo, I'd go for it!

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/08/2019 10:45

The dresses and coats in particular are lovely.

Ninkaninus · 12/08/2019 10:56

IME their trench coats are understated with subtle branding and very nice looking.

higgyhog · 12/08/2019 10:58

DH wears Superdry jeans as he is very thin and they fit him well, he also buys the odd jumper as long as the logo is not too visible. He is 64.

Floisme · 12/08/2019 11:02

Any brand that sells trench coats is fair game for all generations. If teenagers really want their own look (which I can quite understand) then they should stop copying their parents and create one for themselves. Stealing our clothes then trying to tell us we shouldn't wear them any more doesn't cut it.

SconeofDestiny · 12/08/2019 11:09

Nooo! If you're over 50, surely you have grown beyond caring about completely pointless made up fashion rules by now? 🤷🏻‍♀️

MinesaPinot · 12/08/2019 12:49

DH has got a couple of jackets from Superdry which he loves. He's 65.

catsnoring · 12/08/2019 13:33

Thanks all. Wobble over - I've ordered it! Smile

I buy stuff from Superdry and I'm 40. It's good quality and not all of it is covered with the logo (which would be a no for me).
I love their skinny jeans and have several good quality plain t shirts that have lasted well.

Ellapaella · 12/08/2019 13:51

And agree size up as it comes up small, especially the coats. A medium is a 10-12.

bouncingraindrops · 12/08/2019 13:54

And no to all the dads wearing it. Nooo

Not sure I understand.

Mamia15 · 12/08/2019 13:57

I have a few things from there including a wool pea coat - great quality at decent prices - as long as the branding is discreet

LoafofSellotape · 12/08/2019 13:58

I always think of dads when I think of Superdry Grin

newnamewhosthis · 12/08/2019 14:02

Nay

20viona · 12/08/2019 14:07

Superdry is a no for any age in my book but each to their own. I hate how it says SUPERDRY all over every item 😂

Northernlass99 · 12/08/2019 14:36

Fine if it has a small logo, and you like it, glad you ordered it.

I think there is a stereotype of the over 40 dad-bods wearing super dry t-shirts with the name blazoned in large print all over it and thinking they are cool! Thats not you though!

Zenithbear · 12/08/2019 14:47

Glad to hear you bought it. My favourite jacket ever is from Superdry.
I wear it all the time and it's very good quality.
I'm over 50 and don't care what rude know it alls think.

Craptop · 12/08/2019 14:48

Superdry is awful. Company started by two guys from Essex with no taste trying to pretend to be a Japanese brand. It's a no from me
