Make me glow

I've never worn a highlighter or anything like that and don't really know how to. I'm happy with my foundation (Double Wear) and blusher (Benefit Dandelion) but feel it all looks a bit dull and flat.

I don't want to look greasy or shiny but feel I need something! Mac, Benefit, Boots No 7 or any of the products in Boots or Superdrug would be best for me. I wondered about Benefit Shybeam. Or would I be better with a bit of creamy blushes along with the Dandelion? Or what??!!

I like how Sali Hughes always looks a bit glowy but still quite natural.

Any ideas? x

BeautyPie have good Hourglass inspired blushers, Max Factor do too.

NoBaggyPants · 08/08/2019 14:23

Ditch the Double Wear. It's flat and not particularly flattering.

I can't get on with powder highlighters, they don't look natural, but I do like Benefit Shybeam. It's just that right level of glow (I'm pale).

CT Wonderglow is very good. I posted a link upthread. It's ok to wear on it's own just for a healthy glow.

Effiedg · 08/08/2019 15:21

PS And it's comes in one colour. So one size fits all! Although CT do similar products which come in different shades.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 08/08/2019 15:25

Going from DW to CT Wonderglow is quite the big step.

Op I'm fifty.

I use Charlotte tilbury wonder glow primer, you can put under or over your foundation, I either put it under then my foundation on when it's still damp and it gives a nice glow, or mix a dot with my foundation.

I use Chanel les beiges powder to set my t zone . It's not matt and leave a more natural sheen.

I use Chanel blusher, but add a touch of Stilas heavens hue highlighter in kitten to my cheek bones, literally you need a touch, and it gives that mild glow you're looking for.

Overall it works.

You do get products to spray on, for example iconic London do one. But I think they just leave you looking sweaty unless your twenty. So you need something more subtle, the above works for me.

Oops cross posted with Effie on the wonder glow.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/08/2019 16:00

Thanks all.

I really like the Double Wear and definitely don't want to try another foundation.

I think I'll give the Shybeam a go and also go and poke around with a couple of the products mentioned here, plus the Mac cream thing.

I already use (and really rate) Porefessional.

I’ve just added to my glow products

Mac strobe in Peachlite. I’ve got the original in pink lite and the silver. Gave the silver away as it looked hideous on me! peachlite looks warmer and I’m tanned at the moment.

Then I bought some cheapies-

L'Oréal Paris Glow Mon Amour Liquid Highlighting Drops - Bellini

L'Oréal Paris Glow Mon Amour Liquid Highlighting Drops - Champagne

And two lots of

L’Oréal Paris Bonjour Sunshine Liquid Bronzer

Lookfantastic have an offer with many of their brands if you buy one you get 15% off or if you buy two you get 20% off. Code is FEELGOOD. Won’t work on Mac.

Did work on Urban Decay stay naked foundation, their latest one.

SouthWestmom · 08/08/2019 17:30

What you could do is mix the MAC strobe cream with your foundation. I think DW is so heavy it may reduce any benefits otherwise.

Soola- I'm very pale and have the gold and pink. Loved the peach lite and almost bought that too.

Wingingitsince2018 · 08/08/2019 17:34

Bare Minerals do an excellent highlighter that gives a lovely glow on pale skin

Soola · 08/08/2019 17:38

It’s only in recent times that I’ve gone for a glow as I’ve tended to go for a matte or semi-matte look but that has made me look older. The glowy look in moderation is actually very flattering.

JMAngel1 · 08/08/2019 17:54

I have loads of expensive highlighters - Benefit, CT, Clinique, Hourglass, MAC but my absolute go to is MUA Peach Diamond highlighter powder and it's £3!! It's a gorgeous creamy holographic pinky peachy highlight which I put on very subtly with a large blush brush for daytime but then put it on for nightime with a more tapered brush for that really shiny finish just above the cheekbone and the arch of brow - it is beyond wonderful and I wouldn't use anything else. MUA is in Superdrug.

Alicatz66 · 08/08/2019 18:06

I've bought 2 NYX illuminating primers .. a pale one and a bronze ... cheap and I'm really pleased with them ... wear under foundation or mixed in .... cruelty free too

Alicatz66 · 08/08/2019 18:07

Second vote for MAC strobe cream too .. and I'd ditch the double wear

DameXanaduBramble · 08/08/2019 18:11

Op, if you want to glow, you really should consider ditching the DW. It’s just so flat.

RidgedPerfection · 08/08/2019 18:34

Clinique Even Better Glow gives a lovely finish.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/08/2019 19:36

I like the Double Wear - it's the best foundation I've found in years! I use very little of it - just on my nose and under my eyes, and honestly don't think it looks flat. I just think I need a bit of glow on my cheeks, maybe.
