Nose - had it pierced and scared to tell mum!

I’ve always wanted my nose pierced and I’ve just done it. My mum will hate it but I love it. Is it sad to have it done at my age (40s but 21 in my head)?

What’s done is done. Make it a diamond... perhaps it will go down better...

Your mum will get over it. I highly doubt you'll be grounded at this age.

Still not admitted to my piercing...I’m 52!

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 04/08/2019 21:08

Ha! It’s the disapproval I’m dreading. Even though deep down I don’t care. Ive avoided her. But I love it. It’s tiny and a bit of me I’ve suppressed. Next step tattoo. But again. For me !

😁 that's kind of sweet that you're still worried about her reaction. I had very conservative parents and got a nose ring, multiple ear piercings and tattoos as soon as I left home at 17/18.

My DD got her first nose ring at 15 with my permission 😶 and although it's lovely I kind of wish she hadn't, she has several ear piercings and wants a tattoo as soon as she is 18 and I cannot help but feel OH NO! About it all. I have no ground here but I (at last) get how your mum feels!

FWIW I will love her just the same, decorations and all, and I'm sure your mum is the same about you.

I got mine done, on a drunken night out by my sort of on/off boyfriend 😳 I was 17 & yes I was a bit reckless then!

My mum & dad noticed the following day! My dad, not the person to mess about basically told my mum that I should pack my bags & get out! Obviously an ott reaction as I never actually did & over time (and a lot of eye rolls every time they looked at me) they just accepted it. I think what made it worse was how I got it - went out, got drunk & came back with it, it could of got infected etc, i was very lucky, it never did. I think I only had it about 6 months if that anyway!

Some body art to celebrate a big life change is next on my list. Mind, depending on placement, a tattoo is easier to hide than a facial piercing.

I'm 54 and got a nose piercing earlier this year. I also have a tattoo. My mum is very disapproving of both, but I love them.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 06/08/2019 12:56

I love it too. It’s very delicate and I think pretty but I’ve had a few barely disguised eye rolls and mid life crisis comments

Mine is tiny and delicate too, but a few people seem to be disapproving Hmm I don't care these days lol

I had a nose piercing at 19 and my mum made "disappointed" faces every time she saw it for the first few days. I used to have a ring but changed to a stud when ds1 was a grabby baby and neber went back. He's now 18, I'm 48 and my mother would still rather my nose was unpierced but has, finally, got over it.

It was nothing compared to when I got my ears pierced the year before, though. She said they looked "common" and was not-so-secretly glad when one went septic.

Figroll16 · 06/08/2019 16:48

Bet it looks great!

I had my septum pierced at 38 (now 40) and all I got was 'are you having a midlife crisis' or 'does nothing to enhance your looks' 😂

A friend of mine had a parent tell her, you'll never get a job, on discovering her tattoo, which she had done at university.

Needless to say, she did go on to get a job, even though - gasp! - a subsequent tattoo is almost impossible to cover up completely 😱

I thought I was rebellious wearing scruffy trainers, DM hates them! Isn't it rather wonderful that we can still rebel against our parents in middle age.

Northernlass99 · 09/08/2019 10:32

I had mine pierced when I was a student and loved it, but took it out when I started my career properly. I am now 50 and want it done again! Not sure what my work would think. At least a nose piercing can be removed, unlike tattoos!
