Hair Dye failure- please help

On a whim I decided to dye my natural golden blonde ( which also has a lot of white highlights) grey.
Looked at the colour charts and my hair was seemingly the perfect candidate... however it has turned it grey (which I do love) everywhere but the roots. As i am so fair the roots don't really show when i am blonde if that makes sense.
Now i am my original blonde on my crown and grey on the length. On closer inspection almost pale blue on the tips.
It looks bloody awful.

I can't get to the hairdressers as they're fully booked. I've read about colour strippers but I'm concerned as to what they'll do to the original highlights
Can I just whack a light blonde colour over the top? I have NEVER used a box colour before and I'm starting to see why.
The grey is light rather than smokey

I'm meant to be going out tonight.

I have tried to take photos but it doesn't show very well. So wouldn't be beneficial to add on here as it doesn't look so bad on photos.

Please help. Confused

Honestly why don't you post a picture. The amount of people who post pictures whilst crying and then we all think it's not that bad! Be brave and post and we can hopefully reassure you Thanks

Do another purple shampoo mask.

Lwmommy · 03/08/2019 19:53

Ok, you need to give it a bit of a rest so you really shouldn't bleach or colour it for at least a week.

Try another purple toner, and work on adding protein and moisture so that it's in good condition.

During that time find a hairdresser and get a consultation. Bear in mind there is a difference between what you want and what is possible, ask the hairdresser to be honest and realistic.

It's not likely to be cheap, and if it is don't trust the hairdresser, ask people you know with great hair, who use a hair dresser for colours to give you a recommendation.

Because of the bleach you will need to grow it out to get back to your actual natural colour, so now you have choice to go grey as you originally wanted or to ask for a colour as close to your natural one as possible, or something completely different.

I've dyed my hair lots in the past, had colours I hated, bleach disasters, great colours, allergic reactions, the lot, don't let today's adventure get you down, just figure out what you need to do to be happy with it. You could even get a temporary crazy colour and go pastel pink, or mermaid turquoise if you fancy it Smile

I know I'm a bit late to this but the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I mixed lemon juice with some conditioner, covered my hair in in and left it for an hour. When I washed it out all the grey was gone. Might be worth a try and as it's natural shouldn't damage your hair. Good luck!

Hair goes through the full range of colours when lifting from black through brunette, orange, canary and white (and all the shades in between)
You can go grey/ash until the whole of your hair is roughly the same shade of inside banana skin yellow really, roots will lift quicker due to the heat from your head. So always apply on the lengths and ends first then the roots.
Purple shampoo may work a little but try and life the hair through the canary yellow stage and then try a toner.
When I wanted ash blonde I used "luo p01"
As a toner.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 20:23

Thank you for all the advice

I applied the purple shampoo and left it for 20 minutes
It looks a lot better. Not my usual cool blonde but not banana yellow Hmm

I have poured a large glass of white and will head out once that has boosted my confidence. Haha.

DH just keeps pissing himself laughing.

Yes to another purple shampoo mask - if it's working then that is a good sign and if you're lucky it will continue to lift the yellow tones. I have everything crossed for you.

Post a picture too.

I like the grey!

icanthelpyou · 03/08/2019 21:03

I like the now too, phew good job!

Hollylolly28 · 03/08/2019 21:06

It's looks good now, hope you enjoy your night. If you're going to dye it again the super drug own dyes are really good and I've tried so many other brands but it lifts the best, the ones in the white box can't remember the name but my hair is really light blonde I use the ultra light blonde and then their colour effect wash in wash out colours in cool blonde when I want it a bit ashier

pejorativelyspeaking · 03/08/2019 21:09

Fab rescue!

SteadyAreYouReady · 03/08/2019 22:23

Ooooh I like the now!

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 03/08/2019 22:44

The now is very slightly warmer to my usual colour.

In certain lights I can see the orange and it is more orange than the roots. But compared to earlier it is a lot better

DH is still laughing at me running around the house in a towel crying my eyes out. Haha.

Hairdressers next week.

Ok it doesn't look awful in any of the pictures OP. Yes it was too yellow but no worse than most of the dye jobs I see round here! Looks fine now. Crisis averted Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 03/08/2019 23:12

I've just come back and seen all your updates - keep up with the purple shampoo!! It will tone down the warm tones and keeps working even after you've rinsed and dried it Grin

It may take a few days but it will settle, whatever you do don't panic and reach for the bleach!

browzingss · 03/08/2019 23:50

Which purple shampoo did you use? It did such a good job

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 04/08/2019 01:02

Loreal
The " salon one"

My hairdresser told me to order it from Amazon rather than buy it from her months ago

So glad I did Haha
