What should I do with my hair?

I’m naturally a dark brunette. Starting getting some highlights about 5 years ago and have gradually got lighter and lighter.

I’m unsure what to Do with my hair next. I think I prefer it blonde but I also hate the condition of it due to highlighting. I try to limit washing and straightening but it’s just a constant frizzy mess.

Should I go back to brown or consider a treatment like a keratin blow dry?

What would you recommend?

I have my hair appointment today so will be getting the ends cut to keep it healthy and roots done. This is my current roots based on 6-7 weeks between appointments.

Which obviously look awful Sad

If you want to stay blonde, I would suggest:

  1. Use a product like Lee Stafford hotshots at week 4 and week 6 after getting highlights, as this acts a bit like a toner to blend in the roots, and also cleans up any brassiness (your hair does NOT look brassy).
  1. Maybe have 3 inches cut off of the length if you feel the ends are particularly dry.
  1. Have regular trims.
  1. Get the highlights just on your roots, not down the length which is already really blonde and doesn't need any more damage (NOT visible in your photo! Your hair looks great - this is just going on what you said in your OP).
  1. Use a conditioning mask once a week, I like the L'Oreál one with bits of glitter in. (Didn't realise it had glitter in until I used it at a pool shower while wearing a black bikini, got home and saw my bikini covered in glitter. I'd been using the deep conditioner for about a year, once a month! I'm not very observant). Can't remember the name but it comes in a gold pot. Other posters might recommend something stronger, though, for very dry / fragile / processed hair.
  1. Don't get a keratin blowdry. It fades your colour, and overall can make your hair weaker or dryer.
  1. Try to cut down on heat styling, and make sure you are always using heat protecting products.
  1. Consider getting fewer highlights (e.g. just T zone) on alternate appointments.
  1. Speak to your colorist about Olaplex, which gets good reviews on here (I've never tried it).

Your hair looks wonderful in the photo, OP! Envy (yes, envy)

I'm at the hairdressers now...getting my long blonde hair cut shorter! Sad

I got some darker highlights in and a bit of a chop.

I don’t think you can tell in the photos but it’s just so frizzy. I need to put it in a bobble or bun for it to look ok otherwise it looks like candy floss hair.

Wow! How much did you cut? It looks lovely, but that's a big change. Colour is beautiful.
