Big Men's Hats - London - Tomorrow. Help!

NotQuiteCockney · 01/08/2007 18:44

I want to go get DH some sort of sun hat, tomorrow, in London. He has a giant head. A cricket hat would be ideal, but an aussie stylee hat would be fine, too.

Any suggestions? Normal-sized men's hats really don't work.

where in London?
the outdoorsy/trekking shops round covent gdn might be a good place to start

NotQuiteCockney · 01/08/2007 18:52

Don't really care where. Outdoorsy might be a good option, will try ringing one to see ... I was thinking Lillywhites, too, as a choice.

I could cope with one of those Oasis stylee hats, too. Just not a baseball cap. No bloody way.

lillywhite's has gone a bit weird - lots of shellsuits and fur-encrusted leggings from what I can remember. i'd look in the trekky shops

The size thing is a real issue, though. He has a stupidly big hat, and we have bought him lots of hats that were sort of ok, and they're not really comfortable and he doesn't wear them (can't blame him!).

I'll measure his head tonight, to be safe, and also get him to try on a hat that fits me, and see how it fits him, to see how much of a difference there is.

have youmeasured his head? round the crown, in cm

NotQuiteCockney · 01/08/2007 19:00

I will. But I can guarantee it's huge. I normally struggle to find men's hats that fit me, and his head is bigger. (And I wonder why I had two CSes )

if he has a hat that fits, try it on you, put hands in either side to see what "fit" is like on you (in loosest sense of word )

NotQuiteCockney · 01/08/2007 19:03

He has no hats that fit, other than ones I've knitted (e.g. stretchy ones).

I'll use measurements, and take a tape measure.

I've found two hiking stores that aren't far away, and an army surplus store even nearer.

Woo hoo! The army surplus store has lots of hats with sizes! And not just S/M M/L or (more helpfully) just medium , but actual sizes with numbers! Or S, M, L, XL, which gives me hope. And I'm sure DH wouldn't mind wearing a DP hat, although I'd be less than thrilled.

And risibly, the army surplus store is like 15 minutes from my house, on foot. And it's not a branch, this is the main store, so I expect that whatever's on the website is in the store. So, hopefully, this is sorted.
