Special birthday coming up. She would like a yellow gold style vertical bar necklace - preferably long rather than sitting at the neck.

Budget is about £100. Have seen a few but none that I think she would particularly like. Any suggestions please?

@BenWillbondsPants I think for your budget you're going to struggle to get solid gold to be honest. Gold price is very high at the moment and the weak pound against the dollar doesn't help. 9ct is currently showing £22 per gram which gets you a small piece 1mm thick x 18mm x 5mm. Tiny. Then there's the making-up, chain to add, hallmarking costs, etc. Etsy fees can be up to 15% and i've been told NOTHS takes 25%.

I'd go for gold filled if you can't stretch to gold and get it personalised, but even that's quite expensive. Do read the small print though, as online "gold" often just relates to the colour option, not the metal the item's made from!

Good luck!

Thanks @GrannyPenny, I put gold style in my OP as I know I won't get real gold for my budget. More's the pity! I saw a beautiful necklace exactly the kind of thing she's looking for then noticed it was £845! 😂

I'll keep looking, I'm seeing a few nice things but nothing just right yet. When it's something so specific you're looking for it's often difficult to find isn't it.

Oops, I should read more carefully! If you see something close in style to what you want on Etsy, Folksy or Not on the High Street then it's worth contacting the seller to see if they can make something specially for you. It's not necessarily much more expensive and you get exactly what you want!

@GrannyPenny - great idea, I didn't think of doing that, thank you!
